My son is in England but unable to enable data roaming

We have the international plan with AT&T, and my son is in England but unable to use his phone. When he goes to Settings, he doesn't see an option to enable Data Roaming. He also sees a "no SIM" message under the eSIM section. Is this the issue? How does he fix it while there?

Postpaid, prepaid?

What international plan would you be referring to?  If you're referring to the $15 world connect that is not a roaming plan that is a calling plan only which works from the USA to other countries.

AT&T's post-paid option is the international day pass. International day pass charges you $12 per day, capped at 10 charges per bill cycle to use your phone as you would in the USA in another country.

If your son is on a prepaid plan he has to log into his account, not a group account but his own separate account with his password and PIN code and add $35 and add the $35 roaming add-on which does work in the UK

And if your son has put his phone in airplane mode, or turned his USA SIM to off, or deleted his AT&T SIM, he would have no service

We have the International Day Pass, and it's not a prepaid plan. Thanks.

Okay. So has he taken his phone out of airplane mode?  Has he turned on his AT&T SIM?  (Some people turn it off as advised by many travel advisories)

Has he tried restarting his phone?

iPhone 15 is a world phone. There's no reason it would not work anywhere in the world.

After checking all of that, if he still does not have cellular service, you can call 611 on his behalf and ask for assistance.

The number for International travelers is probably in his contact list on his phone. It is a free call

He has restarted his phone and it's not on airplane mode. He gets bars on his phone, but I don't know if that means anything. How do he know if he has turned on his SIM? Thanks!

We just discovered my son is able to call me, but he is unable to text. Is there a setting that will enable the phone for texting while in England?

@Bbops24 is he also unable to use any data? Make sure data roaming is on in his settings.  If data roaming is not on it would prohibit being able to use texting through iMessage or rich communication services, and it would block data

@formerlyknownas The strange thing is that "Cellular Data Options" doesn't even appear as a menu option when he goes to Setting-Cellular on his iphone. He only sees "Cellular Data" and "Personal Hotspot". Not sure why "Cellular Data Options" is not appearing on his phone. I called AT&T and the rep didn't know why it would not appear.

I appreciate you walking me through all the possible scenarios.

In settings, cellular data, right under cellular data it says cellular data options, and on the right it will say off or on.
