Phone goes into SOS mode in the evening

For the last couple weeks my ATT iPhone goes into SOS mode in the evenings.  I work at home so I’m in the same place all day.  It will work during the day but goes into SOS mode at around 6pm in the evening.  My personal Xfinity phone still works, it’s just the ATT phone.

I have done all the software updates, turned it off and on, put it airplane mode and nothing seems to bring the cell service back.  Why would ATT be going down every evening?

Hello @PlaidCat, thank you for reaching out to us!

We are here to help with your phone going into SOS mode.

  • To resolve most instances, simply do a restart
  • Or like you have done, reset network settings. Settings app > General > scroll to and select Transfer or Reset iPhone > select Reset > Reset Network Settings > select Reset Network Settings again to confirm.

Navigate to Settings > General > Emergency SOS. Turn off the toggle for Click Sleep/Wake to Auto Call. This changes the way the feature is activated.

Let us know if this helps!

Xfinity uses Verizon, so that’s why it’s different.  It’s likely a network congestion issue and the local AT&T gets overwhelmed in the evenings.  The option may be to change to a different carrier for that phone.

Robin, Thank you for the response.  I tried the network reset as you suggested, twice, but it has returned to SOS mode.  I’m going to drive around the area and see if I get service in any of the nearby neighborhoods, hopefully that will tell us if it’s the phone settings or if ATT cell service has been stopped in my neighborhood.  I’ll report back to this thread shortly.

Phone still in SOS mode, I went to the DMV then drive several miles in each direction crossing two major hi-ways, ATT service never returned. I did try the reset network steps again.  It’s a company phone so I’m going to call in from my Xfinity to make sure the bills are paid and nothing has been shut off.

Thank you for all the responses. After driving around to make sure it was the phone not the cell towers I reported it to my company since it was a company phone.  after 4-5 tries and sending several screenshots back and forth one of the techs figured out the issue and he was able to remotely update the  eSIM card and within a few hours the phone was fixed.  Thank you all for the help.
