Poor Service in most of the Phoenix/Metro area

I've been having terrible service with my cell phone ever since I "upgraded" to a 5G phone. I'm about 1.5 years into the 2 year contract and my phone is basically a fashion accessory unless I'm in specific places where it decides to work. Fortunately, my phone does work at my house.

The weird thing is, My phone will say I have 5G and 4 out of 5 bars of signal, yet be totally unable to run any apps, send messages (both social media and texting) that require cell service. I've tried refreshing my connection, I've tried restarting my phone, I've tried everything I know how to do in the last year to try and troubleshoot. AT&T just says they don't see any connection issues, and coverage maps show that there is coverage in my area. I have no Idea why my phone is basically a brick outside of my house.

We're happy to help with information on what can affect your wireless signal, and what you can do to improve it @seanzee7893.

There are a few reasons why your device may be running slower than normal. We may temporarily slow your speed at any time if our network is busy. We may also slow it after you use more than 50GB or 22GB of data in a single bill period. Let's review some tips to improve your speeds.

  • Turn off Wi-Fi- If you are not near a Wi-Fi network that you can connect to, try turning off the Wi-Fi feature. This may help with the connectivity to your apps and services.

  • Erase unneeded files or pictures (store them on a micro SD card or the cloud.
  • Check Coverage map in your area- AT&T 5G requires compatible plan and device. Review your area, plan and device to ensure that it is available.

Sometimes, during peak times, AT&T may slow down speed to keep everyone connected. Also, if you see a drop in service, or slow speeds, at a specific time, this could indicate another issue, like equipment around you emitting interference. It could also mean something on your device is causing issues.

Try the steps above and if you are still having the same speed experience, we may need to look into options for replacing your SIM card. Feel free to reach back out with any questions. Thank you for contacting AT&T Community Forums.

Agreed, I’m in 85028 area … sure, I guess 2 bars qualifies as “coverage” but data is non existent.  Extremely spotty service around 85028 and 85023, up towards Desert Ridge and Kierland Commons areas.    And my home.  I have to get a Verizon Hotspot as a backup to my Internet Connection for work I guess.   Ridiculous.

Have had AT&T for the past year and a half as well and have had nothing but problems. My family and I have new phones with an unlimited plan, have wifi calling on, you name it. I live in Surprise which has become a very well developed area and apparently has 3 cell towers yet we get the worst service EVERYWHERE. Dropped calls non stop, 1 or no bars, even tells me I am not on a network constantly.  Visited AT&T stores multiple times to try to reslove this, tried every troubleshooting method given by AT&T and that I know. Nothing helps. For people having to pay a fortune for cell service, this should not be happening! And to have to jump through so many hoops and nothing gets resolved is beyond frustrating. They even show us on the map that our area gets service so why is it so (Edited per community guidelines)ty everywhere in the city of Surprise? Cell phone companies charge luxury fees for (Edited per community guidelines) (Edited per community guidelines) service.

Same here, AT&T in Surprise (Edited per community guidelines), lots of bars, very little service. Particularly around Greenway/Bell and Litchfield/Bullard. They have way oversubscribed this area I’m guessing and the area is growing rapidly so it’s just going to get worse. As an AT&T customer for 15 years I’ve finally had it, will be switching to Verizon soon.

I have been with AT&T since they were Cingular Wireless so it’s hard to say I’m thinking of switching to Verizon. But I work in Queen Creek and it’s pretty much a dead zone. Their map says it has coverage which is completely wrong. At work I have to use their Wi fi which they don’t give out, but I use my phone for medical reasons. And their Wi fi (Edited per community guidelines) so I struggle daily. So as soon as my contract is up I don’t have a choice but to change unless the area is fixed. I don’t understand why this company has seemed to not care any more lately. They are going to lose all their customers.

You're not gonna get any help here. Just a bunch of lunatics that'll keep blaming the customers. Yeah, expecting good service after paying $86 a month is so silly!

I switched to Verizon and it's blazing fast everywhere.
