Question

A while back I was approached at a gas station by a man in a at&t uniform he observed that I had the iPhone 14 plus and asked if I was interested in switching. I responded with no Thankyou my phone is not paid off. He said what service do you have? I said Verizon he then proceeded to tell me well then you’re in luck because Verizon is the only service that makes it possible to switch before paying the phone off. You will still be responsible for making things right with them on that end but I can successfully switch your service over to AT&T. He said what do you pay and I told him and he was like oh I can get you a WAY better price AND a 500 dollar grocery gift card. So he pretty much talked me into it I went home asked my husband had my husband call him and he worked his charm and was able to coerce my husband.

so he comes over to our house to do the process and after completion he made some excuse as to why we didn’t get the gift card immediately and he left. When we got our first bill not only was it way higher than he had told us it would be, it was higher than our bill at Verizon. So this man coerced us to switch under false pretenses and left us high and dry with an outrageous bill. We wish that we would have just stayed where we were. I will never trust another person that works off commission. It’s been over a year and we never received this imaginary gift card and we have been stuck paying an outrageous bill. If we do ever decide to switch again I’m praying that our phone isn’t locked up somehow it shouldn’t be because we owed Verizon not AT&T. How was he able to switch us over with our phones not being paid off? Is this going to cause us any issues with switching services in the future? And is this typical of you Company to recruit customers by making promises they don’t intend to keep once the switch is final. That is a disgusting way to get business. We were able to complain and get the first two bills cut down a little -but not enough because they were still more than we paid with Verizon. But since that we’ve been stuck paying an outrageously higher bill. I have made sure to tell any and everybody about this and ensure they never fall for this or go to your service. If I can figure out a way to transition back to Verizon without any penalties and can go back to the plan I was on with an additional reasonable fee each month to pay off what I owe I will be gone with a quickness.

Nobody made you change providers. You literally walked away without doing so, went home and had your husband speak to the rep. You chose to switch providers. All prices are published online, that is what will be honored.

Sounds like you got scammed by some independent reseller of AT&T. Just because he was wearing an AT&T shirt doesn't mean he was an AT&T employee. The fact that he tried to make a sale at a gas station is suspicious enough.
