S23 5G standalone forced on

I want to select 4G LTE in some service areas, but my phone (Samsung S23) will not allow me to select this option (5G Standalone switch will not toggle off).  How can I change the network mode?

Hello @scwilson00, thank you for reaching out to AT&T Community Forums. We'll be happy to help you.

We understand your concern and will help you get this sorted. Please use the below steps provided to change the Cellular data settings from 5G to 4G LTE.

  1. Open your Samsung Galaxy Phone and visit the settings app.
  2. Tap on connections > and Visit the Mobile Networks.
  3. Following that, choose Network Mode.
  4. You should Find 5G/LTE/3G/2G (auto connect), tap on it and choose LTE/3G/2G (auto connect).

For more information on changing the network mode on your Samsung device.

Hope this information helps, and do reach out to me if you require further assistance!

Thank you for contacting AT&T Community Forums,

I tried that, but on my phone (Samsung S23 with UI v 5.1 and Android v 13) the Network Mode option is not available.  There is a "5G Standalone" toggle, but it is greyed out and cannot be switched off.  Looks like it is fixed by AT&T in firmware or SIM.

Sia,

As I already wrote previously, I do not have "Network Mode" option on my Settings/Connections/Mobile Networks" page.  I do have a "5G Standalone" option, but the selection is greyed out and the toggle is forced "ON".

It’s worth pointing out that 5G SA does *not* mean “only use 5G, don’t use LTE.” Instead, it means when you are connected to 5G, it’ll use a newer, better network layer.

ATTHelp:

Under AccessPointNames selection, there is only one option: "ATT Nxtgenphone" radio button, and it is "on".  There is no option "AT&T" If I click on "ATT Nxtgenphone" there is another page to edit, but it is all greyed out (cannot edit anything).  I also have the option to "Add", but I do not know what parameters to add in there for 4G LTE:

Name

APN

Proxy

Port

Username

Password

Server

MMSC

Multimedia message proxy

Multimedia message port

MMC

MNC

Authentication type

APN type

APN protocol

APN naming protocol

Turn APN on/off

Bearer

Mobile virtual network operator type

Mobile virtual network operator value
