Slow data after switching to unlimited extra!

I used to be on a grandfathered plan where we shared a certain amount of data. I switched to the unlimited extra because we needed to upgrade phones and HAD to be on an unlimited plan. All the reps assured me  that the speed or connectivity wouldn’t change if I never went above the 50 gig limit but as soon as I switched over, we’ve been having slow data speeds and bad connectivity. Never really had these issues on the grandfathered plan. Now I see that att stated they can throttle the speed at any time regardless of usage is “network is congested”! Very very frustrating !!

Hello andrew1gt, let's take a look into your slow data speeds.

Try resetting the network settings to refresh your connection to the network. Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

Also, make sure you have the most recent software update to your device to ensure that you have the latest features and device protection options.

Let us know if this helps, and thank you for reaching out to the AT&T Community Forum.

I have already done that since that’s the first thing Custer service will always say. Plus it hasn’t been just my phone but also other lines on my account.

I've had the same experienced. Just switched from a Mobile Shared plan to Unlimited Premium a few days ago and noticed inconsistent and slow speed on data. Even when my phone shows full bars, web browsers and apps run very slowly and, at times, notify of no Internet connection. Data usage shows I have only used less than 1 GB of data and my plan should give me unlimited data without restrictions. I did reset all network settings but that did not help much. I started feeling it was a wrong move from the grandfathered plan to the unlimited plan. At least for me.

Same thing happened to me and my family. It was an INSTANT difference in network speed and signal strength when I “upgraded” my plan. I did reset my network settings, which seemed to help slightly, but I can still notice a huge difference. The places I go to daily (work, favorite restaurants, etc) have noticeably slower network speeds.

Exact same thing happened to me. I was promised by the rep that my speeds would never slow. I was on the grandfathered family talk 700 and I moved all six phones. Immediately all noticed the awful slowing and sluggish network activity. Worst decision ever. The new plans are garbage.

Further to my post ^ I also did all the troubleshooting recommended and it is absolutely the “upgraded” plan that is the problem.

@JasmineBa and @btanrat2124

  1. Which plan did you move to?
  2. What plan were you on previously?
  3. Are you on 5G now, and you weren't before?

I don't need long sentences, just short answers number 1-3 should be fine. I need all 3 answers or the information isn't as helpful.

@Gary L

1) Unlimited Premium

2) Mobile Share Value 30GB with Rollover Data

3) I was always on 5G

Thank you!

@JasmineBa That's really strange as MSV 30 should be the same priority Unlimited Extra and Unlimited Premium is one step better than that, so it should not be worse.

There is actually a difference between 5G, 5Ge, and 5G+. Do you know which one you were seeing with MSV and which you have now?  (I should have clarified on  my previous question).
