Hi there @fredrickmyers38, we'll be happy to help explain how to make calls while traveling to Japan.

Thank you, @formerlyknownas for that positive feedback of the International Day Pass and you can view further details about it yourself on the add-on's sales page

Learn more about our International Day Pass:

  • Be sure you have an AT&T unlimited, AT&T 4GB, or Mobile Share plan.
  • Pay a daily fee for each 24-hour period that you talk, text, or use data within an included country. Only one daily fee is charged even when you travel to multiple included countries in the same day. The daily fee applies to each line on your account using International Day Pass.
    • For 1 line, it’s $10 a day.
    • For each additional line on the same account used in the same 24-hour period, there’s a daily charge of $5.
    • You'll never pay more than 10 daily fees per line, per bill period.
    • You can see a list of included countries.

Let us know if this helps.

Well you haven't provided very much information. We don't know if you're a postpaid or prepaid.

If you are prepaid you will have no service unless you purchase the $35 prepaid add-on and have a compatible phone and SIM card.

If you are postpaid you should add international day pass.

Questions?

We pay monthly post paid. International day pass I think is like $10 per day. Not bad. Thank you very much

We will be in Japan 12/17 to 1/1 for a total of 15 days and we plan to use the International Day Pass for our entire trip.  I understand that one of the terms is that we will ever pay more than 10 daily fees per line, per bill period. Our billing cycle ends on the 28th of every month.  Does that mean it resets on that day and that we will have to keep paying?

Correct, yes. Additional lines on the same account pay half price.

So if in Japan for 2 months, no matter how many days it's used - only charged for 10 days each bill?

Correct.  You can use your domestic post-paid att plan the same as in the USA, for $100 extra ... Until the price goes up which I think is the end of April.

Price increase I believe takes a fact at the end of April and goes from $10 to $12 (so 120 a bill)

@floridamary if you have an unlocked phone you could purchase a Japanese prepaid SIM and use WiFi calling back to the US. I purchase a local eSIM/SIM for data and with WiFi calling yet to use IDP while traveling g overseas.
