Galaxy S3 Mini (SM-G730A) Update

Does anybody know if AT&T and Samsung plan to update the SM-G730A to at least 4.4.4, or even Lollipop? The device currently sits on 4.4.2. The specs of this device seem capable of handling Lollipop in my opinion, and if AT&T disagrees, I hope they at least push KitKat 4.4.4.

I know AT&T does not share this information ahead of time usually, just wondered if anyone had heard anything. Thanks.

Hello! @QuakeAZ  Thanks for posting your question.

At this time we don’t have any information on any updates  for the Galaxy S III mini. Please feel free to visit us at www.att.com/esupport/softwareUpdates.jsp  for any future update information for your device.

Well that's not exactly the answer I was looking for. I was hoping to know if there is at least an update planned. I have been watching that Software Update link.

Basically, is Samsung/AT&T still planning on supporting this device? It is not even a year and a half old yet, I am hoping that it didn't already recieve it's last update.

if its the s3 mini then no your as high as samsung will go.  the phone was released in october of 2012.  I would say its EOL.  The s4 mini might see lollipop.

That is not correct. The S3 Mini international (GT-I8190) was released in 2012 yes, and capped off at Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 or 4.1, I can't recall.

However, the AT&T S3 Mini (SM-G730A) was released around September 2013 and currently is running KitKat 4.4.2 released last August.

The device specs are not even similar, I expect the SM-G730A should still have some life left in it. That is why I included the model number in my post.

I stand corrected.  I would say the phone is like the s3 stuck at kit kat.

I hope that is not the case. I guess we'll find out.

If so, I would hope AT&T will at least bring it up to 4.4.4 if they are going to leave it on KitKat.

The last I had seen the s4 mini might get lollipop.  I know the s4 will sometime in the next year.

Yeah, I figure if Samsung and AT&T follow their typical release timeline, we should be seeing Lollipop on devices other than the S5 around the time Android 6.0 is released.

I don't know if anyone here has this device or would be interested in this information, but I did manage to get a little info out of Samsung this morning. Just waiting on AT&T it seems...

  • Bryan: Hello, can you tell me if the SM-G730A will be updated beyond the current Android 4.4.2 KitKat (G730AUCUBNG3)?
  • Valyncia: Hello Bryan.
  • Valyncia: I will be more glad to provide you with the required information.
  • Bryan: Thanks.
  • Valyncia: As I checked with the information, I see that your device is till on 4.4.2 and there are no further updates on your device. You can update your device to the future software updates once your device carrier release the update on your device.
  • Bryan: Yes, but does Samsung plan to update it to a newer version in the future?
  • Valyncia: Yes, you will get future updates on the device.
  • Bryan: Ok, thanks for that information. Can you tell me what version it will be receiving in the future?
  • Bryan: 4.4.4 or Lollipop?
  • Valyncia: You will receive 4.4.4 and then Lollipop.

I would not believe samsung support for a minute.  I would say you might see 4.4.4 but lollipop is pushing it.
