Help! have I been hacked?

A random number out of nowhere began texting me "Call me back" even though I have never seen the number nor called it. Immediately after that, my phone started making random calls to some of my contacts and I had to explain the situation to everyone.  I powered off my phone so that my phone would stop calling people. Is there anything I can do to make sure this problem is dealt with?

Hi @JacobGould

Thanks for reaching out to us today. We'll be happy to assist you.

It's possible that someone is spoofing your phone number. Your best bet is to block the original number that sent you the text (and if you have iPhone, consider using the Do Not Disturb setting so that people who aren't in your address book can't contact you), make sure your software and carrier settings are up to date, run an antivirus scan, and bring your phone to your nearest AT&T store for a complete diagnostic test.
