Network locked SIM - Unlock phone

I need to unlock my phone, but I am in another country and do not have access to my mobile number to receive the verification code to start this process. When I bought the phone, I paid for it all upfront so that it would not be tied to the AT&T carrier, because I anticipated being out of the country shortly. I'm confused why my phone is locked in the first place, but I need help unlocking it without having access to my U.S. line. Thank you!

We are here to help with your device unlock request, @ckean.

We understand how important it is to be able to have your device unlocked to use if while out of country. Even though you paid for your device upfront, it can still be carrier locked. No worries. All you have to do is submit a device unlock request

It usually takes a few minutes to approve your request, but it could take up to 48 hours. You do not need your mobile number to complete this process. If you are not an AT&T customer, a confirmation email will be sent to your email. It is very important to keep an eye out for this email as you have 24 hours to confirm. Not doing so will result in a delayed request.

Here are our device unlock requirements that must be met before submitting your request:

  • Is an AT&T device and isn’t active on another AT&T account.
  • Was paid in full when you bought it (not on an installment plan). You won’t have to wait 60 days to unlock it.
  • Has a paid-off installment plan.
    • Paid through your monthly bill: Submit your unlock request at the start of your next bill period.
    • Paid off early: The wireless number assigned to the device must be active for at least 60 days. Wait 48 hours after you make your final payment to submit your unlock request.
  • Doesn’t have a past-due account balance. Make a payment to bring your account current. It will take 24 hours for your payment to post.
  • Hasn’t been reported as lost, stolen, or involved with fraud.
  • Is an AT&T PREPAID phone that has had paid service for at least six months.

Lastly, you can check your order status to stay updated.

Please note: Only submit one device unlock request at a time. Submitting more than one request before you are approved or denied can also slow down the process.

We hope this information helps!. Thank you for contacting AT&T Community Forums. Please feel free to reach back out with any other questions.
