Account access without texting?

I find it ridiculous that there is no way for ATT to allow online access to an individual without the use of a text code to be sent.  My 84 year old mother does NOT use texting, she doesn't know how to even find the icon on her phone.  She recieved a message that the auto payment was declined due to a new credit card # needed(her last card was compromised). She asked me to resolve for her but I could not do since I don't have access to her phone to look at the text(we don't live together) When I called to speak to an agent, I was asked for her password, which of course my mother did not know.  We have her account logon, password and pin but no other type of password.  In the end I had to wait until a friend was at her house grab her phone and give me the text code to access her account.  I can't believe there is no other option???No email link?

Some companies don't realize how much elderly people need assistance from their younger family members and friends.

I understand your frustration. It's unfortunate that the current account access method doesn't accommodate those who don't use texting. Having alternative options, such as an email link, would indeed be more inclusive and user-friendly. Hopefully, AT&T considers implementing such options in the future to make the process smoother for everyone.

Hi there, @Bajadreamer! We're here to explain some things about the 2 Factor Authentication.

 

At this time, the 2 Factor Authentication or Trusted Sign-In  is not optional, and it cannot be bypassed, because it based on user/customer security. We do want to keep your information safe and from those that want to get your account/information. 

 

Just to inform you, this should only happen when you are accessing the account from a new or unrecognized device/browser. We’ll send a one-time verification code to your AT&T wireless number. Once you’ve confirmed, we’ll remember you’ve signed in from this browser or device. We’ll make sure it’s you again whenever you clear your cookies, sign in from a new browser or device, sign in with a different ID, or reset your password.

Again, it’s unrealistic to only have the ability to have one option. Clearing cookies on a regular basis is necessary for many reasons. There should be at minimum have a system in place that someone can access without texting.  There are millions of people that do not text.  You are basically saying that part of being an ATT customer you must have the ability to text.  This should be disclosed before someone agrees to be a customer.  Very disappointing.
