AT&T TV program pricing

I hope someone from AT&T will read this.

I had to cancel my u-verse u200 tv service because I couldn't afford it anymore with my fixed retirement income.

However, I've been thinking since then about how AT&T and retired folks could have a win win situation. The price I have here is old and higher now but you'll get the idea behind my recommendation.

The present U-verse U200 price is $153/month for 210 channels (not including music)
when bundled with Internet. That averages at 73/cents per channel/month.

We believe that, like us retired folks,
   1.  Most people watch a small amount of those 210 channels.
   2. Most retired people are on a fixed income.
   3. A of lot of retired folks are at the point, they have to consider “cutting the cable”.
   4. However, there’s a great opportunity for both AT&T and us retired folks.
   5. My limited survey shows that most of us use between 40 to 50 channels at best. And most don't want music.
   6. With that being so, AT&T has an opportunity to
           A. Help reduce the cost of U-verse TV for retired folks
           B. Make more of a profit per channel.
           C. By selling a Select 40 up to a Select 50 Channel packaged at $1.50/channel.
           D. That would cut the monthly cost for retired folk in half.
           E. That would also double the price per channel for AT&T.
           F. Select 40 or 50 would be by the customer selecting from the U200 package.
           G. Select 40 channels price would be $60/month.
           H. Select 50 channels would be $75/month.

A Win Win for AT&T and Retired Customers

Respectfully,

If desire to cut the monthly bill for tv service, ATT had DirecTv Stream, similar (4) different packages at different pricing points as well as two lower priced of UFamily and UBasic (local channels only).

Another option was remove additional receivers ($10 per month per receiver) and have only one tv.

However Uverse IPTV was sold to DirecTv in summer 2021, thus while ATT might collect the money for the tv service it is forwarded to DirecTv. ATT business after selling off all tv services in summer 2021 and their media business in summer 2022 is phone and internet. Along the way they have reduced their number of employees, cutting costs … which is what your trying to do.

Therefore you suggestion should be to DirecTv.

While it is apparent that you put a lot of thought into your post, ATT is getting out of the TV business.

Uverse TV is no longer being offered and DirecTV & DirecTV stream were spun off into a new company.

The other thing to note is that most of the channels are owned by media companies who provide more than one channel.  Their retransmit agreements force the video provider to include their channels among certain tiers to get the best subscriber counts and payment per subscriber per tier.  Those providers are not interested in only having a few of their many channels paid for... they want them all.

I have several discounts applied to my TV and internet within the past calendar year and even one or two applied this year.

Threaten to cancel. You hear the talk about how they don't give discounts, but it varies based on which rep you get. I haven't paid for my two additional receivers in years.

Jeffer speaks the truth though. The newer streaming providers started at $30 or so per month, but continually added channels and are now all around $70 or $80 per month, partially because the companies which own the channels all demand their "little brother channels" all get carried too.

There's an app for Amazon Firestick which provides all the channels you subscribe to. Try this on additional TVs.

Directv Stream might be a good option for you. If you know anyone you can trust you can share Directv's streaming service and split the cost between 2 houses.  That is what I do with my elderly mother.  I have the home network with more TVs as more people live in my home.  And my mother is using the 2 TV streams that are considered On-The-Go streams. We split the cost between us making it more affordable for her and me!  Without doing that we both would not be able to afford the TV service ourselves.  Directv Stream also offers some cheaper packages starting at $69.99/mo. for 24 months. ($84.99/mo. w/ req’d ARS $15/mo. Fee) w/24-mo. agreement. + taxes, fees, AutoPay & Paperless Bill.  You could cut the cost even more if you were able to do Directv Stream bring your own device(s). For this you would use your own streaming devices such as Roku, Firestick, or Smart TV, etc...  Then you would not have to pay the ARS fee. and you also would not have the 24-month agreement.
