Credence Resource Management Scam

Today I received a fraudulent debt collection letter from Credence Resource Management claiming I owe a bill on my AT&T U-Verse service which was sent to them for collection. I called AT&T customer service who verified that the bill is bogus. DO NOT SEND these people ANY Money!!! Demand verification of the bill (which I did) and also notify AT&Ts fraud department. AT&T- you need to go after these guys. They’ve been pulling this scam for a while. You have a responsibility as a company to shut this down.

Look at your credit report. They are a valid collection agency. Anyone from AT&T saying it’s a bogus scam are clueless as once an account goes to collections AT&T wipes out the record and no one from AT&T can see the account

That doesn't make any sense. If the debt did come from AT&T, then either it is a legitimate debt, or AT&T is scamming you (not Credence). If the debt didn't come from AT&T, then why would AT&T have a responsibility to address it?

They are a scam  I called AT&T and they keep all their information>  I just busted them real good  They tried to put a bogus account on me but I already had paid it with the legit credit agency  These (Edited per community guidelines) gave me 3 different account numbers and I called AT&T on all 3  The only record they had was the legit one that I paid from another agency.  DONT BELIEVE THOSE FOOLS AT CREDENCE  This just happened today.

They did the same to me. Claiming I have an ATT Mobility debt. Yes they called it mobility. It's not on my credit report. I've never had ATT, they even tried to send me a fraud package and to get me to verify my social. I asked for their collector's license number. They redirected the conversation. Tried to send a fraud packet to my address like they're doing me a favor and helping fight the fraud activity. But they are the ones making it up! I don't know who the first Google results are or who they're paying to claim to be a real company, but they are 100% fraudulent with their debts. Just check your credit scores! There's no ATT debt.

Last Sept I closed my AT&T account and paid the final bill that was posted on my account. I used the label they sent me to return the modem. I had already owned my phones with zero balance on them. I have all receipts. After a few months I started receiving phone calls from this place telling me to pay $125, there was no explaination what the charge was for. All of the calls were made from one of those "Boiler Plate" facilities where they can barely speak English. I ask them for a detailed copy of the bill including dates. I never received any documentation showing those charges. They continued to call.  I looked on the internet for help and found that they can not legally harrass me with their phone calls and that I had the right to demand that they stop calling me. I sent them a registered letter quoting the Federal law and demanding that they stop calling me. I told them that if they didn't stop that I would file charges with the Federal Trade commission. I heard nothing from them after that until yesterday.  Yesterday I received a written correspondence from them telling me that I owed $125.  I've been watching my Credit Report and nothing has showed up. I don't know what's going on at AT&T but you would think that a company as big as them would realize that trying to collect a $125 from a 8 month old closed account is going to prove fruitless without some proof that the bill is owed. My guess is that this place purchases so-called debts from many places and pursues them on their own expecting that continued harrassment will get a lot of folks to just pay them to stop. It's gonna be a cold day in India before I give them a dime without some proof.

I’ve got 2 letters from Credence regarding my AT&T uverse Acct saying I owe 55.09. I haven’t had AT&T for over 2 years! I had to pay my final bill before we could get my daughter off the plan. I HATE AT&T!! I was with them since they were southwestern bell. Their customer service (Edited per community guidelines)! They always got my bills wrong but you couldn’t get any help! Either I couldn’t understand them or to be blunt- they didn’t know how to do their job! I think AT&T is behind this whole scam. I just noticed I got scammed by a starz subscription that is harder than (Edited per community guidelines) to cancel and they tell you on the recording that their operators can’t help you cancel it, and guess who owns Starz! Or at least has some kind of partnership? AT&T!!! Rediculous!!! This is what we have to watch out for, only going to get worse! 😡

I have to agree with the Customer above.  While Credence maybe a legit Collection Company something is not savvy with the company.  I haven't had an AT&T Account since 2008.  All contractual amounts paid on time and in full every month with AT&T prior to moving across the country in 2008.  All equipment returned as expected and on time.

This year, 2023, I am receiving phone calls from Credence indicating I owe AT&T hundreds of dollars.  I've been using Comcast since 2008 and Verizon for the last 20 years.  I wouldn't touch AT&T with a 10 foot pole due to their Throughput and Bandwidth issues.

My guess is that AT&T had a data breach on older accounts.  That information is being used by malicious users claiming to be "Credence Collections".

Maybe we can start a "(Edited per community guidelines)" suit against AT&T to get AT&T to pay attention to this.  It maybe worth paying the collection amount just to go to court and redeem the 2,500 dollars companies have to pay for bogus collections and reporting with the credit bureaus.

Purportedly they are sending me out by snail mail a fraud packet claiming my PII was stolen.  We'll see where that goes.

Anyway I have to agree with the post above.

@dsct326 some of these debt collecting companies are bottom of the barrel scum. They are the kind to try and collect on over 10yr old debts that the company owed wrote off long ago. There's a useful forum for anyone needing help with dealing with predatory collection practices. Put Credit Boards into whatever search you use. They give directions as mentioned above on getting them to send proof of debt which a lot of them won't because they don't have it to send.
