Improper disconnect fee when account cancelled because of continuing programming contract issues

After many weeks of programming loss due to lack of a negotiated contract we were forced to cancel our longtime DirecTV service to move to another provider that allowed the missing programming to viewed. I contacted LOYALTY and informed them that we would not be paying the disconnect fee as we were being charged for content that was not being provided. DirecTV was not holding up their end and we will *never* pay the remaining balance that should never have been applied due to the contract dispute. Customers should not have to suffer because of issues DirecTV had during backdoor negotiations.

All TV providers have a clause in their Terms of Service that channels/programming may change at any time. There is no obligation they always (or ever) provide any specific channel. As such the early cancellation fee (ECF) is valid. A channel going away because it no longer exists, they are in carriage negotiations, or if the carriage agreement will not be renewed does not waive the ECF.

That is what you agreed to, no matter how much you don't like it.  So the fees would be valid, obligated to be paid by you.

Juniper, I posted in the AT&T forum as the DirecTV service went downhill after they were pulled into the AT&T umbrella and thus should be held responsible. Referencing your other comments I'll just apply the old adage, "opinions and (Edited per community guidelines)holes, everybody has one"!

AT&T has spun DirecTV back into its own entity. The new co-owner is handling management of it. Regardless, U-Verse TV has nothing to do with DirecTV.

What I posted is is FACT. Channels in carriage negotiations does not give you a waiver for the ECF. TV providers do not own the channels so all have a similar clause. DirecTV's obligation is providing you service by satellite, not that you get specific channels all the time. The rules apply to you like everybody else.
