Removal of PII

Hello,

How do I get in touch with AT&T to remove my PII? I am no longer with AT&T and wish for that information to be deleted permanently. My info was stolen when the servers were compromised.

Thanks

@machost1120  You can't. Once your info is on the dark web most, if not all of it  can never be removed. Some services, like Experian, claim to be able to remove it but it's doubtful that the removal is 100%. And if it's archived on a server somewhere, it can always reappear. All you can do is protect yourself on your end. Monitoring your accounts on at least a monthly basis is what you should be doing anyway to catch any suspicious activity early on so you can take proactive measures.

Also to delete PII would be deleting your existence of ever being their customer. That is something they will not do.

I have been told that I can request AT&T to remove my info from their servers.

@machost1120  Whoever told you that was misinformed. Even if AT&T could, and did do that, your information is already on the dark web and can't be removed, which is totally separate from AT&T's servers.

Hi @OttoPylot,

I am not talking about the dark web servers, I am talking about AT&T servers. You would think they would have removed my information from the AT&T servers when I left their services... I hope this clears up the miscommunication?

@machost1120  I believe that @Juniper already answered that. You can try and file an online complaint with the BBB. That will get forwarded to AT&T Upper Management and someone will contact you. Almost all companies retain customer information even if you cancel service and ask them to remove it.

They keep info for so many years. You cannot just delete your existence from being their customer. A breach of theirs from years ago, or more recently of an associate company, doesn't change that.
