U-verse versus DirecTV
Is it true that AT&T no longer supports U-verse? I have a basic U200 account. What is the equivalent DirecTV plan? Is it a hard thing to change over? Does it cost the same or less? This inquiring mind wants to know...!

DIRECTV technically owns U-verse TV service, but AT&T is still billing and supporting it. It has not yet gone away, for now you can keep it if you want to. That could change this month, next month, next year; we do not know. There are no direct equivalents for the U-verse packages in the DIRECTV or DIRECTV STREAM packages. I'd suggest you look for what you want in the packages they offer. What it will cost will depend on your situation.

We're happy to continue to talk about U-verse TV here.

Uverse not including basic has (4) packages and DirecTv Stream has (4) packages…
while not a direct channel for channel I would say roughly equivalent are
Uverse UFamily…. DTV Entertainment
Uverse U200 … DTV Choice
Uverse U300 … DTV Ultimate
Uverse U450 … DTV Premier
While no official company statements have been issued that I am aware of, based upon other stated goals for certain completions I would say end 2025 will be the end of Uverse IPTV.
By end 2025 50% of hardwired footprint (60+ million) to be direct fiber or 30+ million.
By end 2025 25% of footprint to be fiber to the cell tower called ATT AIR or 15 million.
With increasing costs to continue to provide a grandfathered product to less than a 1/3 of the country and as streaming services continue to grow… prior to 2015 when ATT purchased DirecTv the only streaming services were Netflix, Hulu and Amazon. 2015 saw HBO Now, CBS All Access, Showtime and other streaming services. Dish released Sling TV in 2015. The more choices consumers have the more some businesses or parts of business will be shuttered that are not profitable.

Do you need hardware for DirecTV Stream or can you use your existing streaming hardware like Fire TV, Roku, etc..? They show a Gemini device on their web site so I'm not sure if that's something needed if you already have a compatible streaming device.

DIRECTV STREAM has the option of using the Gemini, their proprietary box with a more traditional TV remote, or your preferred streaming device (Roku, Firestick, etc.). I believe that DirecTV by Internet requires the Gemini.
Remember those two services are separate from traditional DirecTV which is by satellite and requires their specific equipment.
