ALL my recordings are GONE!

Yesterday I had dozens of recordings, IMPORTANT ONES!

This is NOT the normal startup where it takes a few minutes to rebuild, they are definitely TOAST because now the DVR is saying 85% free space, whereas before it was nearly full.

Has anyone else had this issue?  I'm done with uverse, this was the last straw.

While losing your recordings IS a bummer and others have reported the same thing,  customers should understand that recordings saved to your DVR should never be considered permanent.

If your DVR is replaced (and equipment does die), your recordings are gone in that situation too.  I have recordings of local news segments where DD#2 is featured but if my DVR has to be replaced I know that I will no longer have access.

Given all the complaints, this seems to be a common problem. The DVR is nothing more than a small computer, and the storage in it is no different than your computer.  Losing a portion or some corrupted is one thing, but to have ALL the files deleted tells me that there is a serious flaw in the DVR code where under some condition it is wiped clean.  A customer has a reasonable  expectation of storing recordings as per the DVR settings.  There is no such warning that they might be deleted.  This is a serious flaw.

Though your advice is reasonable, there is no easy way to backup the DVR recordings....if there is, Im all ears!

There is no easy way to back up recordings which makes the comparison of a DVR to your computer somewhat problematic.

I haven't lost recordings due the fluke discussed, but I HAVE lost recordings when replacing the  DVR...twice in 12 years.  Again, equipment fails and has to be replaced.

The good news is that if it's a movie that you wanted to keep or a series you had recorded, many of those are available to stream on Netflix, Prime, Hulu or other streaming services.  Unfortunately, random news programs are not.

Thanks but these were business oriented news reports i needed.  Not the end of the world but a pain.  I'll get them directly from the source, but this really is a pain.  I guess that it just comes on top of a lot of ongoing problems I have with uverse that they fix and then they come back and over and over again. It used to be reliable, but the infrastructure is getting worse and I need a more reliable system.  PS I am very technical, I used to know all the key execs at ATT in Atlanta when I oversaw large projects.  ATT has outgrown its capacity to support customers.  The Indian tech support tries hard, but its too far removed from the boots on the ground.  Thanks for your feedback and help.

You said it yourself, the DVR is a small computer, complete with a hard drive.  I guess you never had a hard drive failure or a it's directory corrupted so bad that all the hard drive contents become unrecoverable!  Generally that's not the OS's fault.  Hard drives are physical devices and physical problem happen. No software can prevent that (excluding having mirrored hard drives which the dvr's definitely don't have).

Yes, that's one difference from your own hard drives on, say, a computer (I do hope you back up your computer -- preferably often and multiple copies).  You don't have the luxury of backing up the dvr's hard drive. Man Frustrated
