Cable Box Keeps Recycling

I have come home to find that when I turn on my TV/Cable Box/Receiver theatre system my Cable Box has to "restart". This has happened 2-3 times a week for the last couple of weeks...it goes through the whole cycle of restarting which takes several minutes...what causes this and how do I stop it?
Thank you.

I really cannot tell excatly what odd thing is happening on your receiver however, you can try to do a non-destructive recovery. If this process will not going to work, you might have a bad receiver that needs to be replaced. May I know the model number of the receiver your having difficulty with? (located at the bottom of the power button in front and/or sticker underneath the receiver) 1.Unplug the receiver or DVR power cord from the wall or back of the box. 2.Wait 10 seconds. 3.Plug in the receiver and DVR. 4.When three white dots appear on the screen, unplug the receiver/DVR again. 5.Repeat this process two more times. 6.Plug the receiver/DVR back in on the third time and leave in. Three white dots appear followed by a gear with a status bar at the bottom of the screen. 7.If the Disaster Recovery screen does not appear, repeat the steps above.

Model VIP 1225

I have tried the soft boot of unplugging and plugging back in the power cord - no luck

I have tried holding the power button in for several seconds - that managed to erase everything in the DVR...grrrrr!!

I will try the repeated unplug/plug in that you have described.

Thank you for your attention and suggestions...appreciated!

Please mark as solution if that process worked for you so it will be easy for others to find a resolution for the same problem. Thank you.

No...it still keeps recycling on it's own...not fixed.
