Can't connect u-verse wireless receiver after installing a second router for better WiFi
Hello!
Since the wireless access point that comes with at&t's internet and u-verse, I decided to install a second router (Archer A9) for better WiFi throughout the house.
So far so good. I disabled the WiFi on the at&t gateway and put the Archer into bridge mode and WiFi works perfectly.
BUT: now I'm having issues making the wireless u-verse receiver connect to the WiFi. I assume it wants to connect to the standard WiFi that's on the at&t gateway but I created the new WiFi with a new easier name.
It must be somehow possible to access the settings of the receiver to pair with the Archer WiFi...

I'm confused a bit.
You said in the other thread that you have a VEN501-AT. That's the device that sends the TV signal to a wireless box connected to your TV.
The VEN501-AT must be connected to your Pace via an Ethernet cable, so it shouldn't matter if you've disabled the Pace's wifi. Then the AT&T wireless box connected to your TV connects to the VEN501-AT.
Now, if you want to connect the TV box to a third party router and not use the VEN501 than I believe you need one that has both IGMPv3 snooping and wireless multicast-to-unicast support. I can see that the A9 shows IGMP but I don't know if it's v3 and I can't find anything that talks about multicast-to-unicast. If it has both you would connect to the 5Ghz band on the A9.
I don't think the receiver has a UI, I think it's connected strictly using WPS.

As @tonydi said, connect the wap to the gateway. The wap creates a dedicated WiFi network for the wireless stb’s only.

I now connected the wap again and it works.

Thanks everyone.
It took a full day of trial and error, but I finally fixed the laggy, freezing cable issues that have plagued us for years. I bought a new router, plugged it in by ethernet to my modem
(and did some somewhat technical configuration to the router to ensure it's on the same subnet as the modem, and turn off dhcp leases from the router making it functionally more like an access point)
The UVerse receivers would only work smoothly when connected to ATT's AP, so we do have two wireless networks in our household now.
and then made sure all our personal devices connect to the new router instead of the access point. ATT Uverse is still terrible from the pricing to the customer support, but my parents want a cable subscription. Now they're happy, so I'm happy.
