DVR deleted our recordings. Shrugged it off. Recorded some new shows. Cannot record ANYTHING now.

Hi all,

A few weeks ago we had a series of brown-outs that completely reset our box a couple of times (when the system came back up on the TV, there was a big X on my screen). I kept worrying about my recordings, which I've been meaning to pull off of there through my PVR, but still hadn't. Luckily, the recordings remained though, and I felt pretty secure about it.

Well, we had some electricians over to fix our problem and they cut the power completely. After they fixed our issue, when the cable box came back up, to my horror... our recordings were completely gone!

I did a lot of digging into the issue and it doesn't seem like there was much choice but to deal with it. Occassionally I'd see an AT&T rep respond to someone here and say "send me your account info." No idea what the resolution is/was to that.

I reluctantly shrugged it off after a couple of days. The previously scheduled series recordings remained, and so I had new shows to watch.Well, back when I had my old recordings, we had only about 15% capacity left. We have another 10 - 15 shows on our "new" setup. But now, any series recordings I had simply don't happen. I can't even record new shows as I watch them. Nor can I even rewind a live show.

I have a suspicion that all of our old shows are still on the disk, and we have now completely filled up our space with these additional 10 - 15 recordings.

Is there anything I can do? I would positively *LOVE* to be able to get some of those old recordings back. I'm on a news broadcast on one of them, and a cousin of mine is on a TV show on Food Network on another recording.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

@thezer0s Those recordings you want back are long gone.  The Big red X was a big deal you should have called about or contacted ATT Uverse Care here.

On/off power surges can put the DVR into a non- destructive or forced disaster recovery mode, the latter erases all recordings. 😉

Edit:  Not being able to rewind live TV is a symptom of a bad DVR, also other problems you are having.

Contact ATT Uverse Care on the link in my signature.

Send them a Private Message, on this link, and they should be able to give the help needed to solve your Uverse service DVR problems. They are available M-F 8am-11pm Eastern time (also around on weekends), response may take up to 2 business days.

This is not the regular CS/TS phone people, but the social media Community Specialists that know the people to contact to get things done. I personally know as they've helped me on a DVR swap and gone above and beyond.

Include your name, account #, email address and a good phone # (land or cell) and time to contact you on.

Check the blue PM envelope, upper right on every page, for their reply. Good luck.

I have recordings that get deleted when the recorder wants .  Also the recorder, records things it wants (that I never would watch)  I have had the DVR replaced 2 times and with that lost all my recordings.  Never solved the problems.  I now just live with it.  But having recordings deleted happens without any electrical interuption.   Also there is a battery backup that is supposed to handle that. No one is able to solve.   A repair person was here holding the remote when my DVR started recording by itself.  He say it happen ( Idid not sit on anything to start the recording and he didn't.  Was not set to the channel that started recording.  I said see it just did it again.  He say but said he had to go.  He only wanted to take my DVR again and replace it.  I did not want to loose all my recordings again (since replacing the DVR never solved problems) so I said no and am living with it.

No battery backup for preventing power outage to the DVR, only to the RG to preserve phone service.

As to recordings disappearing, there seems to be a bug or corrupt software causing this.

If the DVR functions are still not working, try a Non-Destructive Disaster Recovery.

Unplug the power cord of the DVR from the wall or from the back of the box and wait ten seconds. Plug the DVR back in.

When three white dots appear on the screen, unplug the DVR again. Repeat this process two more times.

Plug the DVR back in on the third time and leave in. Three white dots appear followed by a gear with a status bar at the bottom of the screen.

If the Disaster Recovery screen does not appear, repeat the steps above. If the Disaster Recovery screen appears, wait until completion.

If the Non-Destructive Disaster Recovery does not work, follow the steps for a Force Disaster Recovery

This will re-download all the software.  Will not erase recordings, takes a bit of time or so. Good luck 😉
