DVR not recording
DVR is not recording any shows whatsoever...
Called Tech Support but they are unable to help because of a personal router...
Here is the setup
ATT Modem Motorola NVG589 (doing DHCP, 192.168.1 segment) > Netgear R7000 (doing DHCP, 10.0.0 segment) > ATT DVR (IP Address = 10.0.0.XX, Default Gateway = 10.0.0.1)
Live TV is working fine but just doesn't wanna record, it records but when I try to play I just get a blank screen...
If I connect the DVR directly to the ATT Modem, then I can record and play just fine...
I am thinking this is a bug/glich in ATT's recording software or whatever it is
Any suggestions?

Two words for all the networking gurus on this thread, WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!
Instead of providing solutions like "it won't work" or "it cannot work", do some research and then post a reply...
It was only a matter of unchecking "Disable IGMP Proxying" option in my router
Did that, restarted the router and all works fine...
I know my way around basic networking / googling, that's all I needed
Thanks for all your expert opinion
If you were not that adamant about it not working, I wouldn't have researched... really appreciate it

Yeah, you have to have it directly connected to the RG by ethernet for it to work properly as you know. That's the way it's designed, no units can come off a router behind the RG as they won't get the correct ip addresses for things to do.
You've already found out it won't work your way, so why do you continue? Remember this is IPTV, not cable and you have to set it up the correct way. That's why they wouldn't help you, it's a non-standard setup they don't have to help with. 😉

I was informed on this forum that a wireless receiver could be conencted to a private router behind the Gateway. In fact, it was mentioned as a preferrred method because in that person's opinion the WAPs that the wireless STB connects with tend to be unreliable? So now you are saying that NO untis can be conencetd via a router behind the RG?

I completely disagree with the solution!!!
I know it's IPTV and it does not take a rocket scientist to figure that out...
Answer my simple question
Why is Live TV working?????????????
Isn't the DVR supposed to record whatever it can play Live??????
If the DVR can play something live, it means that it is receiving the signal, processing it and sending out on the TV (technically HDMI port), can it not record the stream???????
And how about GPM75050's comment??

You can disagree all you want.
Anything to do with the TV side has to be plugged into the ATT Gateway/RG to work as a Whole House DVR.

You cannot attach the WAP for the Wireless Receivers or a Wired Receiver (including the DVR) to the Residential Gateway through a consumer grade router. Some high-end (i.e. very expensive) routers can handle the protocols necessary to make it work. Most Gigabit switches would work.
If there is a post in these forums that says otherwise, please provide a link so that a correction can be posted below it.

The DVR (or any receiver) will work with live TV for about 10-20 seconds through a router.
Then it will quit working as soon as the unicast stream that is generated at channel change dries up and the Multicast stream that is intended to be used long-term never shows up because the router failed to deliver the request upstream.

The wireless receiver receives the signal from the WAP directly connected to the RG on the 5Ghz band. Whoever informed otherwise is misinformed. Please post a link to the post that told you this.
You can add a rounter behind the RG for computers and other devices, but not the DVR or any other type of STB. They all must be connect from the RG or diplexer for coax systems. 😉

Scroll down to see the the response from Darknessrise. I do have a 5GHz ASUS Router that can be set up for IGMP snooping and enabling multicast data. Perhaps that is the qualification that needs to be made? Would, as he says, the wireless receiver then work behind a router with these capabilites? The ASUS router was not all that expensive!

This thread meantions a lot of things that are very confusing.
I believe all U-verse STBs, including DVR and wireless capable (wired), can be connected with a cat5 cable to a switch off the RG. I have some STBs connected that way.
This configuration may be also for a router if it is set up to act like a dumb switch.
I do not know if the switch configuration can apply to a WAP for wireless operation. Seems like it should.
TV and internet should not be mixed on the same switch because it may cause flooding of the switch. There should be a seperate switch off the RG for TV and another for internet devices.
Since the DVR has so much work to do, it should have the simplest connection. Usually, it can be connected to one of the jacks on the RG. Connect a WAP to another & use the last two to provide service for STB/TVs and internet devices.
Perhaps the internet network can be served by a router.
