DVR won't function

I am having problems when I try to pause or record anything on my DVR. AT&T technical support has been unable to resolve this issue, so before I give up, cancel and move to another provider, I thought I'd give this forum a shot at my problem.

When I pause, I see this error message: THE PAUSE COMMAND IS UNAVAILABLE. THE DVR IS CURRENTLY UNPLUGGED OR RESTARTING.

When I try to see recordings, or the recording menu: THE RECORDINGS LIST IS UNAVAILABLE. MAKE SURE THIS TV RECEIVER AND THE DVR RECEIVER ARE CONNECTED TO THE NETWORK.

I have done all the resets available on the DVR. Has anyone seen anything like this?

Equipment dies, regardless of who your provider is.  Call CS (if you so desire) and a new DVR can be sent for a self-install.  You have 21 days to return the bad one (UPS/FedEx).  This will be the case even if you cancel.

Edit:  Did you reboot the gateway FIRST and then the DVR?

This is xyzzy's advice on an adjacent question, which is directly connected to my problem. This solution WORKED. Thank you for your advice and your time xyzzy! The following is his advice:

"....reboot the gateway (pull plug for 15 secs. and let it fully reboot) and then after that complete the dvr (pull plug for 15 secs.) even if the dvr wasn't the "receiver" you have been rebooting.  Lastly reboot the receiver that shows the problem if it wasn't the dvr."

A little clarity from me: if you have two DVRs, and one or two are wireless, then you MUST figure out the "main" receiver/dvr. For me, I made the decision based on the labeling on my receivers. The "main" receiver had a more prominent AT&T logo on it, AND it was wired into the wall outlet. So that one was rebooted AFTER the Gateway, THEN I rebooted the "last" or "final" wireless DVR.

You only have one DVR and yes, it is hardwired to your gateway.  Other receivers are referred to as Set Top Boxes  (STB) and those can be either wired or wireless.  The DVR will be a different model number from STBs as you found out.

If you are having issues with recording programs, then yes, reset the DVR.  It's good to be familiar with the equipment and which does what for future refence.
