How do I open up an S10 remote without gouging the edges of the seams?
How do I open up an S10 remote without gouging the edges of the seams? I have cleaned the innards of several of these remotes and it fixes most of the problems discussed in this forum. I'd like to know the proper technique for popping open the S-10 S-20 S-30 types of remotes so as to not leave any of the small marks in the seams. Is there some way to squeeze the lower case to make it easier to get at the snaps that hold the top case and lower case together? Thanks for any info.

I suppose...if you bought one on eBay... In fact, I've swapped boxes, requested new remotes and they've never wanted the old remote back. I still may have a few "old style" remotes with the white "mode buttons" on top, although I have zero idea if they work or even *would* work with the latest updates to the equipment.
I absolutely do not recommend/encourage opening up the DVR, receivers or gateway, but the remote? Ehh, there's probably worse things to tinker with.
But if the remote isn't working and it's not the batteries, call AT&T. I've never paid for a replacement remote.

Yeah….you’re not supposed to be cracking open the remotes. 😵💫

BASEBALLISBACK:::: I never have paid for a replacement remote either,... but it takes a LOT less time to fix the old one than it does for them to send a new one. All you have to do is take one little screw out, pop the remote open, use a Q-tip damp with alcohol to clean the contacts on the circuit board for each button, then pop it back together, and put the little screw back in. 10 minutes max. ................. The reason I asked the question was to find out some slick way to pop open the remote without leaving tiny little gouge marks along the seam that separates the top from the bottom of the remote.
SKEETERINTEXAS::::: you stated "yeah you're not supposed to cracking open the remotes" ......... kind of a silly thing to say, eh? For one thing I was not cracking anything. All I did was to take the screw out and separate the top from the bottom, clean things up, and reassemble. For another, you do not have to be an avionics technician to perform the clean up. This procedure has worked fine for the last 10 or 12 years with these remotes. There has been only one I have not been able to fix. I HAVE had the company send new remotes a few times when I felt like it.
