Motorola DVRs keep failing

We've been through a couple of Motorola DVRs since we started with U-verse. With both the original and the replacements, I have to do a disaster recovery every 6-12 months. Every couple of years, disaster recovery doesn't work, and the unit just needs to be replaced. I just had to do the most recent recovery tonight, and it looks like the unit is fried. I'm getting pretty tired of this.

My question is, are there more modern units out there to replace the Motorola? I don't feel like going through this again.

Thanks,

I've been performing factory resets every 6-12 months, though not by choice. I just chatted with an AT&T tech, and I'll be getting a newer unit on Tuesday. Sounds like it will be the 2250, as he assured me it was a newer model with higher capacity. I will do a factory reset prior to putting into service.

If he still has them on the truck when he gets to you.  When mine was last replaced, the prem tech aplogized he didn't have a 2250 to replace my 2250 that died.  He had 3, but used them all up on the 3 jobs before me.

ATT is junking all the 1216/1225's when they come back and are no longer shipping them to the garages.  Good because they are junk on Uverse too, not able to handle the Uverse of 2015.  They worked OK back in 2008 when we only had 2 HD, 1 app (now gone) and very little VOD.

Now they have to handle 4 HD, many apps, mucho VOD compared to 2008 and the small memory just won't cut it.  I have to reboot every week or earlier to speed things up and just Fri I was thinking about rebooting it.

I went out and came back and it comes up on channel 98 Local Govt, so I knew it had rebooted itself when it needed to, it's done it before when it's needed it.  Luckily it was recording Race Hub, but rebooted during the commercial break. Smiley LOL

Hi @motofredp

Just wanted to check up on your post and see you need some assistance. I'm sorry to hear your previous DVRs haven't functioned properly but, have you received the replacement unit yet? If so, how has it been working for you this far?

I haven't received the replacement yet. It was being shipped, but it only got shipped yesterday, which, sadly, was the day the service rep said it would arrive. However, assuming it arrives in the next couple of days, it's all good.

It's supposed to be the 2250, so I'm hoping it turns in a more reliable performance.

Alright, I appreciate the update. Apologizes for the delay in the delivery but the VIP2250, as 'my thoughts' mentioned, is a newer generation model with a better chipset built into it so my assumption is you shouldn't have any functional problems. However, we're here to help if doesn't show improvement.
