When replacing the U-verse receiver, do I lose the recordings made with the old receiver?

You will lose your recordings when replacing the DVR. This is the box hard wired directly to your modem/RG.
If you are are replacing a STB (non-DVR Set Top Box), then no, you will not lose your recordings. This is most likely a wireless box but could be hard wired too.
