Smart tv apps and soundbar

I have a smart tv with apps like Spotify. I'm connected through tv and soundbar and everything works great for the soundbar as my source of volume. When I go to select my Spotify tv app to play music, the sound that comes through is from a tv channel that I was previously on prior to selecting my LG TV Spotify app. For whatever reason, the music does not come through but it continues to play the sound from the tv channel regardless of the screen showing I'm on the Spotify app listening to music.

Has anyone had any luck with configuring the setup? I also cannot get bluetooth devices to play sound through the soundbar. It seems like Uverse is the only option to have sound come through since nothing else will play through the soundbar.
