Some DVR Recordings Won't Play Back, Others are Fine

Our DVR has started balking at playing back some of our recorded shows. They will barely start, then stop. If you try to fast foward to another place, they will act like they are doing it, but very slowly, and if you stop, they don't play at all, they just go back to the beginning. They won't even fast forward past about the middle of the recording. The recorded shows are totally un-watchable.

Is something wrong with the DVR? Seems like it.

Hi @DianaMR,

I am sorry about the issues you are having with your DVR. Try doing a non-destructive recovery. To do so:

  1. Unplug the receiver or DVR power cord from the wall or back of the box.
  2. Wait 10 seconds.
  3. Plug in the receiver and DVR.
  4. When three white dots appear on the screen, unplug the receiver/DVR again.
  5. Repeat this process two more times.
  6. Plug the receiver/DVR back in on the third time and leave in. Three white dots appear followed by a gear with a status bar at the bottom of the screen.
  7. If the Disaster Recovery screen does not appear, repeat the steps above.

If still having problems, there may be an issue with the DVR, and we can help get that replaced for you.

We did end up getting the DVR box replaced by U-Verse. Service was quick. We didn't do all you suggested, sadly...didn't see your reply before we talked to U-Verse on the phone, went through a process with them, and ordered the new box. We did restart a couple of times, but not 3.
