Uverse recivers

Been having trouble with my primary receiver/dvr. Uverse randomly shuts down. Sometimes it reboots, other times I have to unplug- plug back in. If I replace my primary receiver, do I also have to replace the receiver I use for a second TV?

No, receivers can be replaced independently.  However, if your "primary" receiver is your DVR, then you will lose any recordings that are on it if you replace it.

Hello @bud3201! Thank you for reaching out to us! We understand that you're facing issue with your receiver. We hear you, and are happy to assist you.

When you replace your primary receiver with a new one, you’ll need to consider a few things regarding the receiver for your second TV. Here’s what you should know:

Receiver Compatibility: The receiver you use for your second TV should be compatible with the new primary receiver. Ensure that both receivers are from the same service provider (in this case, AT&T) and are part of the same system (e.g., U-verse TV).

Recording and Settings: If your second TV receiver is also a DVR (Digital Video Recorder), replacing the primary receiver won’t directly affect your recordings or scheduled programs. However, it’s essential to back up any important settings or recordings before making the switch.

Installation Process:

  • Exchange Receivers: Unplug the existing primary receiver from the electrical outlet. Carefully remove one connection at a time from the old receiver and reconnect them to the new receiver. The connectors on the back panel of the new receiver may be arranged differently, but the names, shapes, and colors will be the same.
  • Connect to TV: Connect the new receiver to your second TV. Make sure to select the correct configuration for your TV (e.g., HDMI if you’re using an HDMI cable).
  • Pair with WAP: Pair the new receiver with your Wireless Access Point (WAP) device.

Nate, here is an odd question. Can I move my primary receiver to my spare TV, order new DVR receiver and return my non-DVR receiver? I'm thinking this would keep my recorded shows in the system. I rarely use the spare TV. This might be one of those stupid questions they say don't exist!

If you’re asking if you can have 2 DVRs, the answer is no.

If a STB (non-DVR) is replaced, you have to return a STB.  If your DVR is replaced, you have to return your DVR.

The DVR is required to be hardwired, is the secondary receiver also hardwired?

If yes, try swapping the two receiver locations including the power supply, then determine if the problem follows the DVR or the problem is with the old location. If same issue with different receiver then location (wiring) issue.

If problem follow the DVR then to activate a replacement DVR the existing DVR is removed from the account.
Recommend watching anything recorded before calling for replacement.
