Don't do anything to the WAP, leave it alone or the wireless receiver may not connect to it.  Just make sure the WAP is as far from the RG as possible as some interference can happen. 😉

The VEN401s are more user configuration friendly. The latest VAP2500 and VEN501s aren't. I'm not sure about the VEN501, but I would assume the same happened to it. The VAP2500 used to be able to be configured, but they locked it down pretty hard.

AT&T also knows when you change the settings of it(not sure if regular support does), but they will likely blame you for anything that you have changed if you somehow managed to figure out the admin/password for it.

I was once denied support because my VAP2500 was being used by my other devices.

Yes, the 3800HGV is a 2.4 GHz device. The VEN501 is just a 5 GHz device, nothing uncommon among newer dual band routers.

Technically, if you had a router that supported IGMP snooping, you could just run your wireless receivers over that router's wireless if it supports 5 GHz. I have done it before. I wouldn't suggest it to someone who doesn't know what they're doing though.
