HBOgo

We pay for HBO, Showtime etc. we use the HBOgo app, Showtime anytime app, etc so when we travel we can still watch our shows.

Now if we connect through someone else's AT&T wifi, we are unable to log into our hbogo unless they also have an HBO subscription.

Part of the reason we pay for the subscription is the versatility of being able to watch shows while we travel for work and play. Denying access to a paid subscriber is not right and I want to know why this has changed all of a sudden and if this is how it is going to stay? We have our cell plan (two smart phones), internet and tv service through AT&T but I have no qualms about switching providers of any and all services to get the services I signed up for and not have them changed without any warning.

What I use internet for is none of your business and blocking my use of these subscriptions because of the internet portal I am on is akin to censorship.

I haven't experienced this problem.  I have U-verse TV with HBO, and I frequently go over to a friend's house (he has U-verse TV but not HBO).  I've logged in to HBOgo on my iPad and on his Apple TV (both via his U-verse Internet service) and it's always worked just fine.

I don't know what could be causing the problem for you.  Have you tried contacting AT&T support?

I kind of see both sides of this. I think there is a fear of sharing passwords. The acquaintance does not need to subscribe to HBO to view it, He just uses your password.

while it does deny a legitimate access it blocks pirating & you know which one they choose every time.

Of course, the block can only be on the ISP provider because they have the account details. They could block more than one access at the same time. Again, this blocks both legit and pirate. But, I think it is a better choice - more effective at stopping shared passwords while less intrusive on the customer. Still not perfect.

Yes I called them and was told: "if you're on another AT&T internet account then they need to have an HBO subscription and no there is no work around".

HBOgo, Showtime Anytime, Etc just became "HBOgobackhome and ShowtimeAnytimeWeFeelYouandOtherCustomersarePayingEnough".

Here is the issue and your argument does not hold water because of this issue: when I signed up, one of their selling points was: "You can use our premium apps and watch shows when you're not at home." Well, I am a paying customer and I have lost that ability if I am on an AT&T internet account that they feel isn't paying for the subscription. I should be able to log in and use my PAID subscription wherever I want and not be hampered for any reason. If they want to limit the # of logins for my account that is fine. My wife and I pay our bills, limit us two logins. But denying access because of where I'm staying and them not having the same subscription as me is stopping a paid customer from receiving goods I already paid for.

I'm getting the same error(s) too and I'm irked. I've been a customer of Uverse for 7 years and it making me start to reconsider my options.

Similar situation. My son is traveling with family this summer and he has been getting this 'Your Uverse account does have an HBO subscription' when he tries to log into our account. I chatted with someone at AT&T online who said that the cable plan of the wifi provider shouldn't matter, but I now believe that if the cable plan is associated somehow with AT&T (and they don't have HBO/Showtime), it's shutting him down.

If this is an AT&T issue, then it might be time to look for other alternatives.

So, I checked today at work.  Trying to log in to HBOGo via our U-verse Internet connection resulted in the same error message other people are getting.  Trying to log in via attwifi also resulted in the same error message.

I'm not sure when this changed, but it is frustrating, that's for sure!

Guess they're making too many billions to care. Oh well, come November our year of discounts on uverse is up and our 2 year cell plan will have expired. I have no problem jumping ship to a provider that doesn't control what I watch and where.

I called in to 1-800-ATT-2020 yesterday afternoon to report this issue.  I was taken through various trouble-shooting steps, including deleting and reinstalling the app, but was still getting the message.  After being escalated to Tier 2 support, then to Advanced Technical Support (who I didn't talk to, but the Tier 2 guy did), I was told that they were working on the issue.  When I got home, I tried logging in to see if it would work on my own U-verse Internet service, and it worked fine there.

Just this morning, I tried again at work on both our U-verse Internet service here (which has TV service but no premium channels) and attwifi, and HBO Go worked just fine, so it seems that the issue may be fixed for my service.

If you've been having this same problem, it might be worth checking your service again.  If your HBO Go still isn't working, give AT&T a call to report it.
