Sounds fades in and out

I have a Vizio TV and ATT U-Verse(300). Recently, the sound started fading in and out while watching TV. For example, if the volume on the TV is set to 20 and we are watching TV, the sound continously lowers itself til we can barely hear it, then rasies itself slightly louder. But the sound is never at the level we set it at. An audio level of 20 should be very loud, but the sound auto adjusts to between a level of 2 and 12(my estimation).

This only happens while watching U-Verse.

This does not happend when watching a video on the Xbox or playing a game on the Xbox, which is also connected to the TV.

The Vizio people say it's a problem with the cable provider, U-Verse in this case. They say that I "have to make sure the digital audio out setting in your cable or satellite receiver is set to PCM or LPCM and not Dolby Digital".

How do I do this through the U-Verse menu?

Is this a problem with the U-Verse? It seems to me that the problem is U-Verse since the sound works great on the XBox.

I also did a factory reset on the Vizio TV, but the problem still is happening.

Please advise.

The vizio TV accepts surround? Most do not.

The u-verse setting is Menu options - audio/lang options - digital audio output.

Try stereo.

Also, make sure you are on the primary sound feed - ENTER(bottom right, aka ZOOM) - audio lang.

If neither of those two work, post your TV model & I will look at the manual to see if it has the bility to feed analog sound with HDMI. Actually, you can change the video to component & the audio to analog to see if it is the HDMI interface that is causing the problem.

My Uverse digit audio output is already set to stereo. Also the primary sound feed is correct.

But my audio still fades in and out.

Any other ideas?

My Vizio model is: E600i-B3

On my Vizio system info screen, the audio type is set to stereo

This problem just started occuring about 6 weeks ago. It's very annoying.

Vizio says it's Uverse's issue.

How can I resolve this?

I looked at the manual - http://cdn.vizio.com/documents/downloads/hdtv/E600iB3/UM_E600iB3.pdf

On page 31 it describes a Volume leveling feature. This may work or make it worse. Try both settings.

I do not see an option for analog sound with HDMI. If you want to try analog sound you will need to use component cable for video.

There have been other reports of the latest update causing volume problems - SD lower than HD. Maybe this is what is wrong & it needs another update to correct it.

Problem fixed. Had a similar problem with Uverse. Purchased a Samsung smart tv and Vizio sound bar (sb4051) and after install the sound volume would vary when changing channels and when watching Netflix. Used optical cable connection from tv to sound bar since had no HDMI audio out available.  TV speakers worked fine alone since the problem only occurred with the sound bar.  Went in to the Uverse trouble shooting, selected sound, and then selected no or low volume which resulted in raising the volume output. That fixed the problem...the volume remains constant at setting.
