Uverse/Internet off on first clicks, need multiple on/off to power up

A minor, yet irritating issue.

When I turn my TV/DVR on using Uverse Remote, POWER button. I get a no service message. I have to then turn it off again. Wait a second, turn it back on, and then it works. Sometimes, it takes a 3rd time to do this.

The same is true with internet. If I pick up my iPad or return to my computer after several minutes away, there is no internet connection and I either have to keep clicking on the wifi network or I have to go and select the wifi network name again.

Either scenario takes less than 30 seconds, sometimes 20 seconds, but this seems abnormal. I've never had service where I have to click multiple times when I want to turn on the TV or internet. I have wifi uverse box while DVR wireless is wired into wall. I think that's how it works.

Should i be asking for a technician to come out or is this just something I live with?

Make sure you are pointing the remote directly at the TV and Uverse DVR/STB.  The remote first sends the Uverse off signal, then the TV off signal, can actually watch the buttons on top of remote.  So, you have to keep it aimed about 2 seconds.

For internet problems:

Please Read for a Potential Solution

For many people, the DHCP problems with the 2Wire routers can be solved by configuring the RG as follows:

1. Go to http://192.168.1.254/xslt?PAGE=C_2_1 which is the RG's wireless configuration page.

2. Change the setting "Wi-Fi Protected Setup" to Disabled.

3. Change the setting "Authentication Type" to WPA2-PSK (AES).

4. Click the "Save" button at the bottom.

5. This procedure may ask for your RG's password. The default password for your RG is printed on a white sticker on the side of the RG (3600HGV, 3800HGV-B, and 3801HGV) or on a white sticker on the backup battery (i3812V).

Disabling WPS should help with the DHCP timeout issue and general wireless connection problems.

Setting authentication specifically to WPA2-PSK/AES improves connection reliability on Macs and other Apple products.

Good luck 😉

poodlebuzz - On theTV problem, is the error mesage the U-verse message with the long list of possiblities? Is the STB in question a wireless receiver?

If yes, you may be having a wi-fi problenm that is causing both your TV and internet problems. They are diferent wi-fi networks, but interference could affect both. YOu can try moving the WAP to a different location.

If the TV eror mesage is from the TV, the problem may be the HDMI innterface. THe solution is to use component cables instead.

Having a tech check it out may be the best course of action.

This is a much delayed response to everyone. I have an update. This problem with NO SIGNAL (tv) and NO CONNECTION (internet) continued after my posts. I would have to turn the tv off again, wait, then turn on and it would work. Same with all computers. Would have to turn the wifi off, wait, restart network. You can imagine how annoying this is to do every time you use the computer, ipad or tv.

So a technician came 10/7 and there is improvement. He replaced my wifi modem and also switched tvs from HDMI cable to a component cable.

I definitely get services to turn on with the first try. There's still some skipping and freezing issues.

I would love any feedback from users.....I am disappointed that his QUICK solution was to just switch to component cables from HDMI. With expensive HD tvs and $$ cable, I don't know anyone who wants to go back to component cables. HDMI is the best quality and speed. Yes, it works but I feel a bit skirted that he didn't check some wirings and wall connections to see if there was a bigger issue. Should I just be happy that everything is better or should I be expecting to use HDMI connections (instead of component) in the year 2014 with all my hi tech equipment and $ charges?

Thanks.

When troublshooting, it makes sense to try the most likely cause first. In this case HDMI. If that did not work, then the wiring & STB would be suspect. Since it solved the problem, job done.

For u-verse video, component is equal to HDMI. I believe it provides a more consistent picture channel to channel. I can appreciate that HDMI is desired, but being a two way interface there are many combinations that have problems.
