International day pass vs international pay per use?
Post-paid, resident of US, what.is the difference between international day pass and international pay per use? Do I need both? Seems like international day pass should be all I need? Thanks for the advice. Heading to Japan, btw.

This is really outdated thread from 5 years ago. International day pass will be increasing to $12 per day (may 14) on any day you use service connected to a foreign service provider. Leave it on as a safety net. Control your phone if you do not want to pay the charge.
Day pass on consumer accounts is capped at 10 charges per bill cycle, which will now be $120 per cycle.
Second lines on the same account using service in the same 24-hour window will be charged half price ($6)
There is no cap on the number of charges on business or FirstNet.
Without international day pass, and not controlling your phone, if it connects to a foreign service provider, calls are $2 to $4 per minute, text messages are $0.50, multimedia messages are $1.30. Data is $2.05 per megabyte.
International day pass does not cover cruise ships.

You do need to add $0 international pay per use. Understand it allows usage at the pay per use rates, which are very high. It also enables roaming with plans that reduce cost.
Day pass charges you $10 plus tax per day for any usage, to use your domestic plan abroad. It’s only available in over 100 countries. Please make sure the countries you visit are covered.
Passport charges a flat fee to cover your roaming for 30 days. It reduces costs and provides a limited amount of data.

Neither plan covers ships or planes - beware and keep your phone in airplane mode.
You are responsible for usage, even if you don’t know you incurred it. Know how to control your phone before you leave.
