international day pass

We have an unlimited data plan including the international day pass.  If we use my husband's phone as a hotspot, will we still only be charged $10 per day if my daughter and I connect to his hotspot wifi?

Hello @manishakendall, we'd be glad to answer your questions regarding your International Day Pass.

Please be advised, you will still be charged for data usage even when connected through Wi-Fi. To avoid any charges, you'll need to do the following:

  • Check the apps on your device. Apps running in the background may use data and trigger the daily fee.
  • Turn off data roaming on your device to avoid unintended data use. To learn how, go to Device Support.
  • Avoid streaming Data Free TV abroad to stop international data charges. Data Free TV isn’t available outside the U.S. so international data charges apply.

Feel free to let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Thanks for reaching out to the AT&T Community.

Make certain that International Day Pass is turned on for the other phones too, just in case you make a mistake and start using data. Data is more than $2 a MB, just a few MB and you'll be paying more than the $5 to put the IDP on your phone.

There is NO CHARGE for IDP unless you use data, send a text, or receive/send a call. I've had it on for years and it only activates when I travel in the above circumstances.

We feel very ripped off by the Day Pass.  My phone stays in Airplane mode and I am make calls on Wifi. Some days AT&T charges me for a day pass even though I am in Airplane Mode and on Wifi.  (Some days they don’t.  It’s a crap shoot and inconsistent.). But all of their documentation and rules say that if you keep your phone in airplane mode, you won't be charged for a day pass.  I am thinking someone will start a (Edited per community guidelines) (Edited per community guidelines) against AT&T soon.

I do not recommend using AT&T abroad unless you are ok with paying for a day pass even when you don't want to use it.
