Please create a Robocall blocking solution! ATT customers please reply here to get traction!!!!!

Hello,

As an ATT customer, I am tired of receiving automated robocalls multiple times throughout the day. The calls constantly come from phone numbers that are 1 or a few digits off my personal phone number and always look familiar. This is really annoying and frustrating, on top of the abuse the sales people who answer give you. They curse at you, do not provide their name, do not provide their company name, nor do they give you any identifying information. Typically, they are from "Cardholder Services" or other scam and ignore the National Do Not Call Registry.

ATT, please provide your customers with a solution to this problem!

One online solution which won the FTC Robocall Challange, is named NOMOROBO:

https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/press-releases/2013/04/ftc-announces-robocall-challenge-winners

However, the nomorobo website (nomorobo.com) requires ATT to come onboard, along with others such as Verizon, etc.: https://www.nomorobo.com/signup/info?id=32

If you are an ATT customer and feel the same way, would love for your to reply below to get some demand driven action.

Thanks

Hello @ballinb5,

I’m sorry to hear you’re getting these types of calls. Nobody likes receiving them and short of blocking the number from which the calls come from not much can be done. We are constantly looking for way to get these types of calls to stop, but unfortunately this is a field that spends an equal amount of time looking for new ways to call.

The National Do Not Call Registry allows you to file a complaint with services that are bypassing the Registry. You can submit a complaint via this link.

From the Nomorobo website you provided there is a point that states that unfortunately, Nomorobo is not available on traditional analog landlines or wireless phones at this time. The reason AT&T and Verizon are listed is because we offer home phone service.

Hope this helps!

Ditto for me, too! Just got an especially annoying robo call at 2AM (!) on my landline saying "you number will be removed from our lists immediatedly" ... thanks a lot for the 2AM wakeup call.

PLEASE AT&T let us have a landline service to block robo calls -- or something that allows for call screening outside our own call areas. The US 'Do Not Call' service is completely useless.

I am also on all of the Do Not Call registries there are and still receive dozens of ID-spoofed robocalls per week. AT&T wants me to PAY to change my number or to block UP TO 30 numbers (there are hundreds on my phone) with smart limits. Futhermore, they say that there is nothing they can do about "unknown caller" that calls me constantly and never leaves a message or hangs up right away.

AT&T should not tolerate these scum for degrading the quality of their service. Changing my number won't do anything since it's the AT&T network that is the problem...all these spammers need to do is discover that my new number has a person on the other end and the wrath continues. I refuse to go through the trouble to change my number, which is linked to countless accounts, for the minor chance it will actually do anything in the long run.

As for me, I'm moving my accounts to the first wireless carrier that implements a system like nomorobo.

I get unwanted robocalls a few times a week. I always block the number, but each time it's a new number. SO FRUSTRATING.

I'm surprised there isn't a better solution for this than signing up on the "do not call" registry. (which I did years ago)

You need to sign up for the do not call registry every 5 years.  I signed up again in March and the genuine sales calls are down to zero.

The calls that are similar to your own number are "spoofed" numbers and are called from a computer.  There is no way to block them and the numbers change regularly.

You DO NOT need to sign up every 5 years. Once on the list, you are on forever.

https://www.donotcall.gov/register/reg.aspx

Registrations on the National Do Not Call Registry DO NOT EXPIRE. If you have previously registered your number, there is no need to register again.

NomoRobo is now available for cellphones according to the NomoRobo website. But due to demand, you must be put on a waiting list.

NomoRobo keeps a database of scammer numbers and those numbers are either blocked or sent directly to your voicemail.

I would not suggest blocking the numbers. When I had NomoRobo on my VOIP phone, it blocked calls from the hospital that my wife was in.

It is not perfect but it will block most of the scam calls.

As you may know, callers are spoofing the number they are actually calling from and this leaves the DO NOT Call Registry helpless to do anything.

Take a few millions of those Billions of dollars of profit you make to create a solution to prevent robocalls from harassing your customers.

Since you and I know it's alll about the money, think about customers jumping ship to go to a provider that has offered a solution.  Or if you offer one, all the new customers you will receive because of it will pay for the solution 10x over.

On my home phone, I have a $32 device that will only ring through when a human voice responds to the prompt.  I'd have paid thousands for this.

@tonyt905

that wouldn't help me with the daily "reduce your credit card interest rate" calls.  The call is a recorded human voice.

I wouldn't hold my breath. If this is a dealbreaker and someone else fits your needs, by all means exercise your freedom to choose and go with the carrier that does.

Things move slowly and carriers are not going to adopt a third party solution. The network provider relays all calls to your number to your phone, that's their responsibility. If your number is getting unwanted calls, I'd look into changing my number. Speaking from experience as a customer of over a decade, adoption of something that is third party and requires any sort of change in operation, provisioning, etc just won't happen.

A recorded voice cannot say the word zero when prompted to. If they are in able to answer the prompts correctly, your phone won't even ring. Additionally you can block permanently any number of your choice so they can never get through, or add a number to the white list so that it rings through directly. Best $35 I ever spent! It's called Sentry and available on Amazon. Now I just need to find something like this for my cellphone.
