AT&T 1856 User Manual Landline

Hello...

My phone was purchased a long time ago and still works perfectly! Due to moving out of my house into

renting a room I lost the ringing. In the past few days, there is no dial tone. I purchased a NEW cord

and things are more clear but still no dial tone. I have the User Manual but I can't reset the clock.

Because I don't have a cell phone I must depend on the Internet. Support is given via the phone which is

not possible. Plus... Because I purchased my phone so long ago I don't have an ID. There were so many phones

companies when I was in my house... I don't recall now that they asked for ID. My husband was the one who

set up our ATT phone. He passed and I don't know how to fix the clock set up. Any suggestion is welcome.

Thank you in advance.

Landline UPDATE

The technical trouble, the Landline base cannot hold the Landline phone cord end in the vicinity.

Thank you for all tips and suggestions I received from at&t community...

I was able to restore the issue but another issue is also the problem... The technical problem, the telephone base can't keep the phone cord end in place. This little thing on both ends once inserted in the phone base is changing position if I don't place the handset on gently. At first, I was able to push back the phone cord ending into the phone base but...

The old and the new telephone cords give me NO dial tone.

I ponder if this issue can be fixed.

Thanks at&t for this top-notch discussion...

That phone is 15 years old.  Time for a new phone.

Set date and time are on page 22 of the manual found here. That won't help the no dial tone issue. If you're using digital service try resetting the modem. Ringer volume is on page 11. It can't be working perfectly if you have no dial tone and it doesn't ring. You shouldn't need any ID for the basic setting the ID was used for remote access to the answering machine, which is found on page 31. Right now your biggest issue is no dial tone, has it ever worked since you moved? If not contact your landlord.

How about some pictures so we know what cord(s) you're dealing with. There's no reason a new cord shouldn't stay in place unless the socket is broken, or you're using the wrong cord.

UPDATE 2

https://www.manualslib.com/manual/10655/AtAndt-1856.html  Original Landline cord...

The NEW phone cord works great...

Link below...
My Landline phone looks like a  NEW... Elegant design is a plus. The color is pastel gray... The  short cord is the minus which contributed to several drops on the floor. My phone looks nice outside but  perhaps the phone inlet/plug is the problem.
The connection cuts out when I move handset too rapidly... I have to move cord around to get sound back. This new cord works great if clip fit securely in phone base socket. The original cord didn't stay too long in base socket after all those falls.
I'm afraid to re-program my phone just to get missing ringing back.  Local AT&T refused to consider any  help without ID.

Will someone close this please we have two topics on the same subject and the OP keeps posting on both. @eXamplE2023_ see your other topic and please keep any future post in that topic. There is no glitch, when you accept and answer as a solution they move to the top to the posts.
