How to change Broadband IPv4 Address on BGW320 to stop DDoS attacks

I am an ATT Fiber customer and I have spent over 40 hours on the phone with technicians over the last month. My Broadband Gateway IP Address has been stolen and is being DDoS'd constantly. I have purchased the extra security, I have purchased static IPs, I have purchased 2 VPNs. Nothing stops them from actually attacking the BGW320 Fiber Modem. I have unplugged the modem overnight, I have factory reset it numerous times with Techs and Level 2 Techs. I even ordered a new modem...it was setup with the same Broadband IP Address. I NEED help changing this IP address so my family and I can stop being harassed. I have DirectTV stream so when the internet is not able to be used not only do I not have internet, but we don't have TV. I have logs to show a bunch of the attacks. The technicians have not been helpful in this matter. VPNs are not useful because they are attacking the modem that sends the internet to the devices with the VPN or static IP addresses.

Hey there @bowlahhh. Thanks for reaching out to us about the DDoS attacks you keep experiencing, and we'd be happy to help you.

We'd suggest setting up an AT&T Internet Static IP:

1. Launch a browser window and navigate to IP address 192.168.1.254.
2. Click Home Network > Subnets & DHCP.
3. If prompted, enter the device access code. The device access code (system password) is a 10-digit code found on the side of the RG.

  • If you changed the system password, enter that new password.

4. Under Public Subnet heading, toggle the Public Subnet Enable from Off to On.

  • Choose either Public or Private IPs. Do not mix these two selections.

5. In the Public Gateway Address field, enter the router address of the public static block. This is the second from the last IP address in the IP block.
6. In the Subnet Mask field, enter the subnet mask.
7. In the DHCPv4 Start Address and DHCPv4 End Address fields, enter the first and last usable IP address.
8. In the Primary DHCP Pool section, click either Public or Private IPs. Do not mix these two selections.

  • Private means the next IP the RG assigns to a device is a local 192.xxx address.
  • Public means the next IP the RG assigns to a device is one of the five public IP addresses. In this case, one of the 144.157.80.xxx addresses.

9. Click Save.

We'll then need for you to assign it as your IP:

1. Sign in to your router/gateway using https://192.168.1.254 in your web browser.
2. Once signed into router then click 'Home Network' tab
3. Next 'IP Allocation
4. Then click 'Allocate'
5. Then you can choose a public IP to assign to your specific device you are allocating the IP.

This will tell the router to always assign that IP to a particular device and it is not necessary to make changes to device IP settings.

Let us know if these steps help.

Setting up a static IP address only applies to devices attached to the Broadband Device. I have already went through that step with technicians. I have purchased Static IP Blocks and the extra Security through the Smart Home Manager App. The IP address that I need changed is the Broadband IPv4 address not the Device IPv4 addresses. The UDP Flood is attacking the Broadband IPv4 Address: The public IP address of your device, whether dynamically or statically assigned.

Thank you for that information, @bowlahhh!

I too have the issue.

How do you get a new Broadband IP

Note:  static device IPs don’t help because that doesn’t change your public IP.
