Online ATT Internet Account Primary User Issue

I've been an AT&T Internet user for a long time.  I was sick for a while and the email I used to setup my online account was deactivated do to no activity.  I also forgot my user password as the primary account user.  I can't reset the password because the primary user email can't receive mails to perform the reset.  The AT&T support person set me up as a secondary user so I could pay bills and do some basic tasks.  However, now that I need to change some things, I can't because I'm not the primary user.  Has anyone had this problem and if so how did you solve it.  The AT&T support staff don't seem to have any valid ideas.
