Rate raised while AT&T committed not to do so

In August 2022 on the call with a representative I was ensured my home internet rate is locked to $69.99 and will never change. In June-July 2023 my rate was raised by $5 per month.
12/22/23 on the call with the sustomer service I requested to execute what AT&T committed to do - keep my rate $69.99 and reimburse me for the previous months when by mistake I was charged a higher rate. Operator confirmed the company decided to raise the rate despite I was ensured my rate of $69.99 would never change. Operator multiple times offered to raise my rate even more - to $80 or $86 per month.
It was offensive and disrespectful in terms of not sticking to the commitment of the company, and also wasting my time without providing any options to solve the issue.
Please feel free to escalate my request as I'm not happy with the absence of action, the failure of AT&T to stick to its commitments.

Did you read the ATT Internet Terms Of Service agreement when establishing service?

Regardless of verbal sales rep the agreement states ATT may change rates at any time and your continued usage is acceptance of the change. If did not agree needed to cancel the service immediately.

Search for ATT Internet TOS, last update was January 2019 meaning this is what you agreed to in August 2022.

Chances are you didn't read the TOS as mentioned. You didn't notice in July that your rate had gone up and didn't check with AT&T until December? Don't you check your accounts on a monthly basis?

It might be that the $5 increase could be due to AutoPay if you chose to use a credit card. AT&T announced quite some time ago that they were discontinuing the $5 credit if you used a credit card but if you choose to use a debit card or EFT, the credit will remain. Most all carriers and providers are doing the same thing.

From the TERMS OF SERVICE

1.17.2 Changes to Agreement:

We may add, modify, or delete any terms, conditions, rates, or fees for any AT&T Service at any time. We will provide you with notice of changes that are materially adverse to you (this does not include changes in fees or surcharges imposed by the government and passed onto you or changes to rates, fees, or surcharges within limits set forth in this Agreement or any incorporated documents) by email, bill insert or message, text or other message, posting on the website for your AT&T Service, mail, or other method we deem practicable. We also may provide you with notice of non-material changes in our sole discretion. Your continued use or payment for AT&T Services after the effective date of the change means you have accepted the change. If we notify you of a materially adverse change concerning an AT&T Service during your Service or Programming Commitment, and if you don’t accept the change, you must cancel the AT&T Service within 14 days of the notice to avoid an early termination fee, if applicable. Continued use of the AT&T Service is your acceptance of any changes.

Thanks, everyone! That's sad that what the representatives say a priori contradicts with the Terms of Service.
To answer the question @OttoPylot no, I don't check the bills monthly as there are processes set - autopayments.

I don't use the credit card to pay.

@LizaBakunina  Doesn't make any difference if you have autopayment setup or not or how you pay. It's always a good idea to periodically (at least once a month) check those accounts to make sure that there aren't any suspicious or unexpected charges.

No response from an AT&T employee on this one? I'm considering cancelling now, just got it installed two days ago. Rep also told me the price was "for life".

@Morengo99  Nothing stays the same "for life". The federal and local governments are always raising taxes and fees and of course those are passed on to the customer. ALL carriers do this. Retrans fees go up, etc. Look at your bill and see which line item has increases and read your TOS carefully.

For most of the past years, since Uverse started 2006 in very limited areas…

new customers offers were with a 12 month discount which also had a 12 month contract.

Example in 2015 new internet offers were $17 off list price, then added $7 equipment fee for net $10 discount for 12 months, after 12 months pricing increased to then current level.

Pro internet 3 was $47-$17 for $30 per month internet plus gateway fee $7 for $37, after 12 months discount expired and cost was (47+7) $54. The $30 per month for internet was very popular at this time.

Other speed tiers included … Elite internet 6 was $52, Max internet 12 was $57, Max Plus internet 18 was $62, Max Turbo internet 24/3 was $72 and Power internet 45/6 was $82 and Power Plus internet 75/8 was $92.

In 2016 equipment fee was raised to $10, and most discounts were changed to $10 off for 12 months.

During this time (2010-2020) you had a 12 month contract with $180 early termination fee per service pro rated $15 per month. If decided to cancel service after 6 months had an ETF of $90.

Around 2019/2020 the company started offering no price increase after 12 months, basically remove the early discounts and removing the 12 month contract. Thus have no contract, cancel any time, and no price increase after 12 months from expiring discount… this is not price set for life but subject to ATT current rates that can change which in my observations occurs about every 3 years. For xDSL customers I know of one occurring in 2015 and another in 2018.

Conclusion… not a lifetime price but not a temporary 12 month discount price and no ETF (early termination fee).

I am in the same position.  Signed a contract that the att fiber was price locked for life of the account.  received an email today stating that they price is increasing, violating their own agreement.  but offering discount for auto bank draft or debit payment of $10, and $5 discount for auto payment to a credit card.

Since this is a direct contradiction to the original contract agreement.  I am personally reaching out to the state regarding false business practices and false information provided during time of agreement.

Nothing I can find in my fiber agreement about price increase in the future either currently.
