Text from 91639 that WiFi Isn't Reaching All Devices

Received the following text from short code 91639:

Hi, it's AT&T. Looks like your Wi-Fi signal isn't quite reaching all the devices in your home. Go to https://my.att.com/t/zPNPp6OmsKe7Iqq to find the weak spots.

Text STOP to opt out of receiving updates about your services. Espanol? Envie SP.

I checked the Smart Home Manager and there are no issues.  Will someone will someone please confirm that this is a valid text or a scam?

Hi there, quakermiss. We understand that you received a text message that your Wi-Fi is not reaching all the devices in your home., and if you are wondering if the text is spam or not. We can help with that.

After fact checking the message, including the link that was provided, the text message is a valid text. Whether it is accurate or not is the real question here. Let's look at that.

You stated that you went to the Smart Home Manager, but you saw no real concerns. What we do recommend is that you go back to the Smart Home Manager app and run a signal test. Here is how you do that:

  • Open the Smart Home Manager app on your mobile device.
  • Select the For You tab.
  • Look for the Easily Find Weak Wi-Fi in your location and select Get Started.
  • Follow the prompts to check out your home network Wi-Fi coverage.

This way you can be sure that what you are seeing vs. what is really there matches up. There are times whenunderlying symptoms and concerns can come up without you even realizing it.

So start with that test and let us know if you have any difficulties with it.

Thanks, Matthew!

I did not find a For You tab when I followed the steps listed above.  Instead, I have a carousel that has four options:

  1. Your internet looks good
  2. Easily find weak Wi-Fi in your location
  3. Let's scan for better Wi-Fi
  4. Get faster Internet today

Once I figured out I had to swipe right to find #2, I could perform the test.  Note:  Documenting in case others have the same experience; I have an Android.

I have a strong signal (now)!

Thanks for confirming that the text message is valid and not a scam, which was my main concern.

Have a great day!

January 2024. Text from 91639 "AT&T" claiming they were working on an outage impacting me, with a link. I deleted the text, and blocked the number. I am not an AT&T Customer. 3 hours later, they called me by phone. Indian accent claiming I am an important customer and they were working on my outage. I told them I was not their customer, this was fraud, and to go away. One hour later, another text they were still working on the outage, from 91639 - This appears to be a spoofed AT&T text source. These guys are not AT&T.

Beware! Coordinated Text and Human Call fraud.
