Why am I a secondary user and how do I change that?

My ex husband moved and got ATT fiber at his new residence but instead of creating separate accounts for him and for me, I became a secondary account holder despite us both being on the line with ATT asking that the accounts be completely split apart from each other. Is there any way to become the primary owner of my own account, or do I have to get a whole new account and all that entails?

One of the accounts needs to be canceled,  equipment returned and order / install a new account under different credentials.

I suspect the ex was the primary using their email or phone number to setup service. Primary/ secondary I generally have seen when parents setup an account at different address such as child going away to school or older arents being placed in senior living under another family member.

So frustrating! We were on the phone with ATT for 3 hours trying to get it all straightened out. Sigh. Guess I'll have to figure out when a good time to not have internet might be.
