AT&T Fiber installation and placement of WIFI router inside customer premise

I recently signed up for AT&T fiber for my residence and scheduled an appointment with a AT&T tech to come out and install fiber service. The AT&T tech came out and wanted to install the fiber service on the nearest corner of the house and place the WIFI router equipment inside on the first floor which happens to be in a corner of the dining room area. I originally requested to see if the WIFI router could be placed where the existing AT&T router is in center of the basement, rather than in the corner of the first floor dining area, but this seemed to be an issue for the AT&T tech as they said it would have limited signal coverage throughout the house. What is the AT&T fiber installation policy regarding placement of the WIFI router equipment located inside a customer residence/premise and is there a reason why the AT&T WIFI router box cannot be installed in the center of the basement where the existing AT&T WIFI box is now? Thanks.

Basement finished or unfinished, to allow access for new fiber line?

Single story or multistory?

corner of first floor dining area, near the center of the home?

Ideally the equipment should be placed where the gateway could provide best coverage, especially if you do not have your own mesh system to extend coverage.

The consider the requirements to provide fiber to the selected (requested) location. Tech is allocated limited time to complete installation with expectation will dispatch on three to four jobs per day during expected 10 hour workday which includes all travel time.

This means, ideally, all work is completed, activated, tested within 2 hours of arrival, with travel time (time of dispatch) to close expect 2.5 to 3 hours. Install appointments are scheduled for every two hours, example 8-10, 10-12, 2-4, and  rare possible 4-6. As after 4 is generally a repair appointment. Example tech (8 am) stocks and leaves garage (8:20) arrives by 8:45, should be dispatching on the 10-12 by 11 am arriving by 11:30. The latter in the day day appointments may be late.

One of the tests is Wi-Fi mapping showing reasonable good signal to multiple rooms… basement install with duct work, going up though flooring may not yield a passing test.

The basement is all unfinished to allow access for the new fiber line and placement of AT&T WIFI router box. The house is a 2-story house. The corner of the dining area is located on the first floor and is also the front comer of the house facing the street where the tech wanted to terminate the new fiber line. The existing AT&T WIFI router box is currently located in the center of the basement above I-beam where it was installed several years ago, all accessible and unfinished (no drywall to mess with, etc). We requested the new AT&T router equipment to be located in basement as we currently have multiple RJ45 hardwire connections from the existing AT&T WIFI router connecting to other equipment in the basement. Is there an AT&T fiber installation policy that prohibits placing the new WIFI equipment anywhere else in the residence other than corner of the house located on the first floor? How would installing the new AT&T fiber WIFI router in the corner of the house provide any better coverage than the existing AT&T box located in the center of the basement above the I-beam support structure? If it is installed on first floor, then we would have to run multiple RJ45 CAT6 cables from new AT&T WIFI router from first floor corner of the house and into basement to re-feed existing equipment/hardwire connections in the basement.

Tech installs come with 90day warranty if you are unhappy with your installation. Meaning you can have another tech free of charge.

Let’s refer to your current location as “wiring closet” as multiple Ethernet lines extend from this point.

Basement unfinished with relatively easy access suggests tech is looking at outside and no inside potential issue(s).

As mention desire to place front of the house suggests the fiber terminal is front of house… aerial from pole or buried?

How about the existing copper for current service, connection(s) front, side or rear of house?

Is there access to run fiber from front of house to existing entry point?

My guess is your buried service with driveway or similar needing to be bored under to gain access to point of entry.

In which case general expectation is to install without needing to create a burial request which adds several hundred dollars to your installation as a local contractor (most markets) has to be brought in.

When ATT paying the installation costs do not expect a $1000+ job, when your paying the cost can have what your willing to pay for.

Pic(s) of outside expected path?

If tech went to front corner of house if drilled near ground level would that lead into the basement?
Water tap should be …
