Do I need a wall jack for fiber installation?

Switching to ATT fiber.  They said they would install the Entry box outside and run the rest inside. We want to install this box outside on and bring the line through a hole in the wall.  From there we will bring the the interior line 8-10 the where the Gateway will be. We decided that is the easiest way vs. what the tech suggested (under the house through the crawl space which makes the line longer and change the location of Gateway)

Now my questions:

Can we just run the interior line to the where the Gateway will be or do we need an "official" wall jack for the connection? I assume the tech can cap the line to be hooked into the modem.

What kind of cable do they use for the interior lines? We want about 20ft just to have extra and was wondering if can buy the cable? Is it cat5-6 ethernet cable or some special fiber cable for inside?

Also what modem/routers does ATT use for fiber?  I am asking in case there is a change of plan and we decide to put both the ONT box and the modem/router in the garage? Would the wifi be strong enough to reach the farthest rooms about 30-40 away through many walls?

Thanks

Hello.  My understanding is that the details won’t be known until the installer arrives and brings whatever the local office has.  But as of late, Att is using an integrated device that contains both the gateway and ONT functions.

You don’t want the gateway in a garage. Schedule another install. Tell the next tech what you would like. See what they say.

A typical install is NID on the outside wall. Fiber runs into the house on the opposite side of the NID. Fiber wall plate placed there and then a fiber cable to the gateway.

We don’t want a wall plate/ jack.  Hence the question.   So can we just hook up the interior line directly to the gateway?

You have to have a wall plate.

The interior fiber line terminates at the wall plate jack similar to a phone jack terminates copper wiring to the outside connection(s).

As part of the closing process techs have to take a picture of the mounted jack and upload with closing tests, part of quality control process.

From the fiber wall plate receive a length of fiber that connects to the SFP plugged into the BGW 320 gateway, again similar to a data cable plugging into ATT equipment or a phone cable plugging into the phone to have working service.

That is the process, what you do after the tech leaves is on you, damage the fiber will need to schedule a repair appointment where again wall jack is required.

edit… the fiber from wall plate to gateway is single mode SC/APC to SC/APC (green ends).
