I have super slow download and lightning fast uploads.....Why?

Just installed a BGW320-500 and I'm really peeved. I have comcast and if I can't have this resolved I'm sending the ATT unit back and keeping comcast. I let some fast talker from ATT talk me into the 1G fiber connection and I'm having speeds to everyone of my desktop units (4) around 2.5mbps down and 900+mbps up. Doesn't make sense. Four hours ago using comcast I was 950mbps Down and 25mbps Up (which was normal and fine). Now my connection speeds are GOD AWFUL. I tried speaking to someone on the phone and they could barely converse in English. They said I should wait 24hours. WHAT? 24 Hours? Why?

If I run tests through the modem itself it reports speeds of 900+ down and up. However everything that the network is connected to doesn't get anywhere near that except on the upload side. I'm baffled.

Are you devices connecting directly to the Gateway, or do you have a router in line?

If you have a router, have you tried connecting something directly to the Gateway to see if it's something in the router interacting with the Gateway?

Thanks for the reply.

I only have the AT&T router/Wi-Fi modem. Out of that direct AT&T router, I have a line feeding my switch that routes to all my devices throughout the house. It’s a one gig network. I was up until about midnight and after about three resets and doing all the direct test to the network via the router, it reestablish itself a lot better than what it was. Depending on how you test the speed, whether it’s AT&T Website or Ookla website or even cloud fair I noticed that you’re going to get extreme differences in the speed that was gaged. I’m not sure whose speed test is more accurate. I’d have to say that I’ve done at least four off of different sites and the consistent read is about 800 megs down and about 600 up. I’m not really sure where to go go from here other than it works 100% better than it did out of the box after messing around with it for several hours. And like I stated in my earlier post, if you think you’re going to get some real help by calling AT&T technical support you’re going to have to think again.

thanks for your reply. I really appreciate your input. Have a great day and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

If you want to know how well your service is working, unload everything from the gateway except one wired computer and do all the tests.  I’ve had my fair share of home network issues that I’ve had to sort out on my own, but it’s best to start with a good, known baseline.  If service to the gateway isn’t correct, that has to sorted by Att first.
