Slow upload speedtest with activearmor turned on

I use eero router.

eero's speedtest is affected by activearmor feature. download speed is fine, but upload speed is limited to 100 Mbps. Once activearmor turned off, the issue goes away.

I want to fix this without turning off activearmor. Since eero's speedtest works without activearmor, I want to better understand why activearmor does to limit eero's upload speed.

This affects eero and AT&T's mutual customers.  Please reply tto me so I can connect you with someone from eero. You guys should work together to find a solution to help your customers.

To be clear, eero's speedtest works fine with activearmor turned off. Hence, I think something is wrong with activearmor that is affecting eero.

ActiveArmor processes packets being passed through the Gateway for the speed test.  This causes delay and slows down the speed test.  If you want to run your Internet connection at full speed, I'd suggest disabling Active Armor.

Most Eero specs I’ve looked at lack ability to run in Access Point mode, therefore the gateway needs to be setup for IP Passthrough to property support the Eero router.  Never clear to me unless otherwise stated how folks are setting up their home network.  It is easy for ACEs to make assumptions but also dangerous.

To confirm what I was saying... connect a PC, via Ethernet, directly to the Gateway, not via the Eero.  Try a speedtest with and without Active Armor.  What results do you get?

Exactly.  This method of troubleshooting and problem determination is my preferred one when I need to confirm service to the premises is working correctly.  It is foundational groundwork that should be done first and then move on to other aspects of home network.

I am NOT saying that AT&T's fiber is provisioned incorrectly. I am stating that there is definitely inter-operability issue between AT&T's active-armor feature and eero. Someone from AT&T and eero need to work together to fix this because this affects their mutual customers.

I am looking from someone from AT&T to comment here so I can connect you with eero support. You guys gotta work together.

No one from AT&T in an official capacity with more knowledge than gr8sho or I is going to post here.

Please, before you plead "interoperability" again, do what I said: Try the test with a device other than the eero directly connected to the Gateway and see if you have the same behavior as when using the eero (or going through the eero).

I already tried. Ookla on laptop directly connected to AT&T gateway is fine. That's why I know it is an interop problem between eero and activearmor. eero is fine with activearmor is turned off. probably some kind of packet inspection, flood detection is dropping eero's upload speed

@leopoodle

What are you calling the eero speedtest? Are you running the one from the eero router or for example your laptop connected behind the erro router?

Also it would help us mere mortals offer assistance in the absence of an AT&T Active Armor developer if you could provide a few details. How is  your eero setup in IP/Passthrough: DHCP Static, DHCP Manual or Manual mode. What AT&T Gateway are you are using, examples: a BGW320 or BGW210?  And if a BGW320 are you using Port 1 and have you tried another port on the BGW320?

eero offers speedtest in their app. it runs on their router. eero runs in normal router mode. there is no such thing as IP/Passthrough on the eero as far as I know. DHCP automatic mode.
