What did I just pay for? Does Internet 50 really get speeds of more than 200 Mbps?

I just signed up for Internet 50 with salesman at my door. He said it consistently has speeds of 200 Mbps+ and that it is fiber optic. Then I look online and our city does not even have fiber! So I texted him about it and here is what he texted back:

“Yes it does. Internet 100/300/1000 are considered true fiber optics. Internet 50 is considered High Speed Internet Fiber Optics.”

He also said my price never increases.!

I’m thinking I want to cancel. Because I don’t know what to believe – is Internet 50 really high-speed fiber optic? Even though my city does not even have fiber? Isn’t it capped at 50? He claimed “Internet 50 is just the name of the tier.“ Yeah doesn’t that mean I’m capped at 50??

You're correct. If you're paying for 50mbps your modem can never get 200mbps, even hardwired with ethernet to a PC.

To find out if you have fiber (FTTP - fiber to the prem) and not copper (FTTN - fiber to the node) type your address into the AT&T avalibility page.

If 1000mbps is not available then its not fiber.
