ACP wrongful charging despite approval for the program! Att scammed me!

Hi! I just want to let anyone else know who is apart of the ACP program to CLOSELY MONITOR your account still! I was approved at the end of May for the ACP program. I am a full time college student and single mother who fell on hardship with losing my job. When I lost my job that is when I found out about ACP and decided to try it. In June, I still owed a partial payment for services which I overpaid and was returned a credit of $12.37 to my home address on a temporary debit card. Come July, I received an email stating I had a bill due from AT&T. I looked at the email and it showed a reversal $31 ACP reversal charge plus a $53.36 for the new bill. So now for applying and getting approval for ACP I got a $84.36 bill which was even higher than my original bill has ever been the whole 7years as a customer with AT&T. I called AT&T spoke to a person who was initially rude and transferred me right away to another person who added the discount back on my account. I was thankful for that but wanted to know why I was removed after I just got approved 30days beforehand an was told I would never have to look at a bill again until the program ends.
I was also never informed that apparently you get a $1-$2 charge each month for taxes so the program is not free like they advertise. After this guy added the program discount back on I asked for his supervisor to explain my situation and ask him why I was taken off. Eric the supervisor gets on the phone and yells about how this is the governments problem not AT&T then hung up on me! I called the line again and go through the prompts to get a wonderful woman names Sheila with her Representative number as: SC401X. She was happy to assist my problem and double checked the agent before added the program discount back on. She then applied credit to cover this reversal charge they claimed I have. She then transferred me to the ACP department with AT&T to discuss why this happened to me. The guy who answered went through my account and couldn’t give me a reason. When he realized I’m still looking for an answer he claims again this is a government problem!! Haha so let’s this straight: AT&T offers this program discount with the government then charges the customers for the bill despite being approved for the discount and then claims it’s not their problem.  That is what happened to me and I want other to know to warn you! Thank you.

You might want to review all the information on the program HERE

Why was my Affordable Connectivity Program National Verifier application denied?

AT&T doesn’t determine eligibility for the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) and won’t know why a participant’s application might’ve been denied. Please go to affordableconnectivity.gov or call 877.384.2575 for application status.

"Access from AT&T is a low cost home internet service available to eligible limited income AT&T Internet and AT&T Fiber households who participate in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Supplemental Security Income (SSI) for California residents, National School Lunch Program, or with a household income below 200% of federal poverty guidelines. All households that qualify for the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) and apply the benefit to AT&T Internet or AT&T Fiber service are also eligible for Access from AT&T. Eligible households who apply the ACP benefit to Access from AT&T internet service can receive internet at no charge with AT&T Internet plans (768KB-100MB) and with AT&T Fiber (100MB only). Speeds on AT&T Internet depend on the maximum speed available at your location. Visit https://www.att.com/internet/availability to check the speed available at your location." 👈IS FROM THEOR WEBSITE, DO YOU SEE WHERE IT STATES, "NO CHARGE."  They not only lied, they gaslit you into believing you have fees. No charge means no charge! Like you shouldn't need to have any sort of card attached period. Xfinity attempted to coercive actions with me with the same, I told them absolutely not. It is manipulation, it is illegal.  I filed formal complaint and  arbitration.

Without additional funding from Congress, the allotted $14.2b allotted to fund the ACP is projected to run out in April 2024 (estimated date). As a result, the FCC has begun to take steps to wind down the ACP. What that means is that:

  1. ACP applications and enrollments will not be accepted after Feb. 7th 2024 at 11:59pm ET.
  2. Households who have applied, been approved, and are receiving benefits will continue to do so until the funds run out as long as the household remains enrolled in the program.
  3. After the ACP funds run out (around April 2024), participating households will no longer receive the discounts.

This applies to all providers and carriers who participate in the ACP program. It is not specific to AT&T so there is very little they can do.

ACP & ACCESS by ATT are two DIFFERENT programs.

While ACP is no longer available, you can apply for the ACCESS BY ATT program.

Have you applied for and been approved for the ACCESS program?

Same here but I got credited $40 after paying $10 for the 2 and a half years I was on the acp then they charged 33 cents to remove the acp when it expired. I have at&t access a 10 mb download speed and a 1tb cap and they made plus this past December they "pro-rated" and charged me $70 plus 2 late fees for refusing to pay Eric also was on my case yet did nothing including his job. Honestly if I could speak to their ceo I'd let him know about his crappy employees that shouldn't be where they are when there better people out there looking for a job
