NorthLane Refund Card By ATT a Scam

I received a refund from ATT for canceling service due to moving by means of a prepaid Mastercard debit card. Cant activate it online, Northlane activation phone number and customer service number "cannot be completed at this time". Spent about 2 hours on the phone with ATT being transferred back and forth between customer service, billing, and rewards department, all saying I need to talk to the department I just talked to. This is an overpayment I made and in my mind is theft and a scam, and is just frustrating.

Update is for anyone who has had similar issues ever.

Went to northlane.com "contact us". There is no phone number listed but a "customer service form" I had 0 hope after all the issues someone would return my email but I did get an email the next day saying they activated my card for me.

I swiftly purchased a gift card online, as I have read the horrors of it not actually working when purchasing items, and did not want to be put into that situation. But, after 3 hours of work, It had finally activated and worked to purchase a gift card

I'm having the same issue. I closed my account after 25 years and was due a refund. They sent me a prepaid card that cannot be registered and the phone number "cannot be dialed from my area". I've spent the last few hours getting the runaround at AT&T. I wonder if I should contact the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and issue a complaint.

File an FCC complaint by filling out the form HERE.

This will get the FCC to contact the AT&T Office of the President on your behalf.  Once the OoP people get the notice they should respond to it within 24 hrs (sometimes even on weekends) and they may be able to get things done.  Once you submit, make sure you're ready to get a call from a number that isn't familiar.  If you miss it your chances of calling back and getting a successful result goes down.

Good luck!

I tried to file a complaint but I put "ATT" and they said that wasn't a "valid company". I ended up going to https://www.northlane.com/customer-service-contact. It is a form (super unreliable seeming I know) but they got my card activated the next day. That being said as I mentioned I immediately put all funds into a gift card so I didn't have a run around with declining and such when ideally I would have preferred a check (which you would think would be easier too). I honestly think they make it such a hassle just so people give up which is pretty twisted.

It's a moot point now but the company name is AT&T and it's there in the dropdown box so you don't even have to type it.

Glad you got this resolved, though.

First of all, ATT quoted me a signup price for wireless and assured me total price several times but renigged on that.I finally gave up trying to make them make good on that.I cancelled my home landline and upgraded my internet and opened an ATT wireless plan.ATT did not cancel my home landline and sent me a bill!I called to complain and they issued a credit and sent a prepaid card.Shortly after I received another prepaid card where they made an adjustment for most of the card balance and dropped it to 5$.I can not even activate the second card. I have never seen such a sheister scam in my life and have been a loyal ATT customer for 40yrs. If 20$ is worth losing a lifelong customer then I will drop my wireless program like a hotcake and go elsewhere. It is rediculous! ATT does not care about their customers and will rip you off!David (Ridge) Partridge Ferriday, LA

I've had the same problem. I emailed Northlane's "customer service". It's not possible to speak to a human being and calling the number on the back of the card only provides automated support which hung up on me at least twice and didn't provide any useful information. The email response from Northlane customer service only gave me information I knew already and directed me back to the same infinite loop of frustration. They provided steps to transfer my card balances (I have 2) to my bank account but I can't get to any screen that actually allows for that. I don't understand how this is more efficient than just cutting people a refund check unless AT&T hopes that doing it this way ends with people giving up and allowing AT&T to keep the money. It sure feels like a scam.

I am having the same issue. This is a total scam. Not only did I have to call ATT 3 times to actually receive my refund, I was told I would be receiving a check in the mail, but instead I got a card that I can not activate. I also cannot get in touch with ANYBODY from North Lane. Both numbers that I have aren't even connecting and I am unable to activate online. This is UNACCEPTABLE and sounds like a (Edited per community guidelines) in the making. All of this on top of the HORRIBLE service I had until I was finally able to move....which is why I cancelled in the first place. I will file EVERY complaint that I can with every entity I can. THIS IS RIDICULOUS!!!!!!!

I too am having the same issues with Northlane!  Trying to get the balance on my refund transferred to an actual bank account and can only get to the step where they are supposed to send you an access code via text message.  Wait forever and the text message is never received and the web page says unexpected error.  This is very frustrating and a bad experience.  AT&T needs to consider using a different vendor than Northlane.  The web site has very slow response times which is really unacceptable.
