Trying to understand data usage

I have AT&T internet only.  No cable, Direct TV or wireless phone (phone is with another carrier.

I use my wireless to watch Netflix on a Samsung Smart TV.

 

If I watch a lot of Netflix, my usage will be up, which is understandable. Herein lies the problem:

 

One day I hadn't watched and Netflix and as soon as I turned my computer on, I showed a usage of over 6gb !

Is my phone downloading data at night ? I have called AT&T twice and haven't been able to get any intelligible answer. And techies here that can explain this ? Isdate usage calculated from midnight - midnight ?

It is my understanding you are concerned about data usage.  We understand the importance of being able to manage your data.  I will be happy to assist you with this matter. 


It is possible your phone is using data at night.  If your phone is connected to Wi-Fi, it is quite possible it is updating either the device software or apps using your internet service.  Most phones are set to perform updates only over Wi-Fi to avoid data plan overages or throttling. 


It is also possible the phone is syncing your personal data such as contacts, email, music and pictures.  You might want to check your phones sync settings.


Data usage is calculated in real time.

Thanks! I have the same issue,!! O will check settings too. Now if I can just stop getting this gateway pace error all the time!!!
