Turning off DNS assist does NOT work

I have turned off DNS assist in the privacy choices of my ATT profile. IT'S OFF.

When going to http://ewruoiweur.eruoierw I'm still getting the ATT search page corresponding to this domain.

THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.

Not only this setting is hidden very deep in the profile but turning it OFF does NOT work.

For those who are searching for "DNS error assist", the privacy choice page to supposedly turn it off is at https://www.att.com/acctmgmt/profile/privacychoices

It's not happening for me.  I turned off search assist over a decade ago.  I do seem to recall it takes a little while to take effect.

I have turned it off one week ago and I have checked it again in the privacy center today. It was off.

I'm on the local network accessing my ATT router (nothing fancy). I'm still getting the ATT Yahoo search page for a non-existing domain name.

I have not found any DNS-related setting in the admin web page of my ATT router.

We can help you make sure that DNS assist is fully disabled, gregoireg.

Some customers have had success by factory resetting the gateway, then opting out again. Just locate the small red button and pinhole on the lower rear of the gateway and depress for ~15 seconds.

Keep in mind that this will return all gateway settings to a default state. Any custom Wi-Fi passwords, Wi-Fi names, SSID, Static IP, and Port Forwarding rules will be lost.

Let us know if you need further assistance!

You cannot change the DNS on the Gateway.  However, you can change the DNS servers on your clients, or you can get your own router and configure it to give out a different DNS server via DHCP.

@ATTHelp and Aminah, this is exactly what I'm saying: this is not acceptable. Plus your post implies that there is a bug here. I'm not going to hard reset my router just to QA your bug... I have setup a bunch of IP allocation and NAT routes that I don't want to have to reconfigure.

I just want to confirm:

- I have turned off the DNS assist in the web privacy center multiple times, once even more than a week ago.

- I have rebooted my router.

and I'm still getting the ATT/Yahoo search page for non-existing domains.

Hi there, @gregoireg. Let's continue to troubleshoot the DNS assist.

Just to make sure that you are following the correct steps, here they are:

  1. Sign in to your AT&T account
  2. Once signed in, click on your name and select View Profile.
  3. Now select Communication Preferences, then Privacy Settings.
  4. From here, you should be able to select DNS Error Assist, and see an option to opt out.

According to multiple forums threads, the steps above should preform exactly what you need. If not, you may have misconfigured an IP Allocation or not opened a port needed to be opened for the routing.

Please make sure that you have tried the steps above to make sure that the settings have been done. If not, please let us know.

What happened to this setting? I can no longer find it in my account privacy settings page.

I had this turned off years ago, but it seems to be turned on again recently.

1) Log in at https://att.com

2) Click on Manage Profile

3) Click on Privacy Choices

4) Make the slider "Off" under DNS Assist.

5) Click Save Changes

Is that still a thing?  I don’t see such a setting.
